Your laundry will look newer and brighter if you add one surprise kitchen staple to your washine machine drum

A PAIR of cleaning-daft mums have revealed their simple hack to make laundry look newer and more vibrant – and it only costs a penny.

Laundry experts have revealed that salt is the secret to keeping dark colours looking new[/caption]

The duo also own a launderette, so definitely know a thing or two about washing tricks.

In a recent post, the cleaning experts revealed that just a sprinkling of salt in the drum can help maintain your clothing’s colour while it spins round the washing machine.

They explained: “If you have black jeans or a [darks] wash and you want to keep it looking great and stop your blacks from fading, especially your jeans, get your jeans turned inside out and put a tablespoon full of salt in with you’re washing.

“It stops your blacks fading and it stops you getting all those lines up and down your jeans because the salt locks in the fabric dye that is already there.

“A wee spoonful of table salt in your washing and I can guarantee you, your blacks won’t fade.”

You can pick up a 750g tub of table salt from Aldi for as little as 65p, making this an extremely affordable hack.

Even better? There are 50 tablespoons in every tub meaning it only costs 1p per wash.

Hazel and Claire’s clip as already racked up more than 100,000 views, with social media users loving the hack.

One gushed: “I’ll definitely be trying this with my son’s black jeans. Thanks for the tip.”

A second revealed: “I’ve always put it in my black jeans pocket.”

“Brilliant. Thank you. Husband’s work trousers are black cargos”, wrote a third

Meanwhile, a fourth added: “I always use salt with black clothes.”

Hazel and Claire run their own launderette and shop in Moffat, Dumfriesshire, called The Laundry Room.

The duo are also a viral sensation on TikTok (@theweescottycleaners) thanks to their cleaning hacks – with their videos earning them millions of views.

The cleaning fanatics have since launched their very own cleaning product – a Pro Glass Cleaner that leaves the perfect streak-free finish.
