A WOMAN, aged in her 30s, has been arrested over a hit-and-run in Co Louth that left a cyclist fighting for his life in hospital.
She is currently being detained by gardai and quizzed over the collision, which took place on the R132 near Whitehouse Cross in Dromiskin on Monday.
Gardai rushed to the scene shortly before 6:30pm and said the car involved in the incident “failed to remain at the scene”.
Officers confirmed this morning that they are continuing to investigate “all of the circumstances” surrounding the collision.
A garda spokesperson said: “A woman was arrested this morning and is being detained at a Garda Station in the Louth-Cavan-Monaghan Division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.”
The cyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for serious injuries.
He remains in a critical condition.
Gardai have urged anyone with any information to come forward.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
“In addition, road users who may have dash-cam footage of the incident from 6.15pm to 6.45pm or were travelling on the Old Dublin Road between Castlebellingham and Dundalk are also urged to contact Gardai.
