Up until 2019, the OG Avengers stood side-by-side during battle and faced whatever the universe threw at them together. Then, Avengers: Endgame came along and the dream team disbanded. While Iron Man and Black Widow met their heartbreaking demise, Steve Rogers left the superhero world behind for a life with his one true love and returned as an old man. As for Hawkeye, while he survived the battle with Thanos, his Disney+ show revealed that he had passed his bow and arrow to Kate Bishop and retired from the job. This really only leaves us with Hulk and Thor.

So, the question is, when new threats loom over the world, who do we turn to? Well, the OG Avengers may be long gone but it left behind a place for a new team to form. Let’s take a look at who might be eligible to be a part of Avengers 2.0.
1. Thor

Of course, the God of Thunder. His story didn’t really come to an end in the Marvel Cinematic Universe just yet. He was last seen in Thor: Love and Thunder, where he adopted Gorr’s daughter.
There is great scope for continuing Thor’s story in the MCU. Even if he doesn’t make a comeback with a solo film, we would love to see him join forces with the new Avengers and take down the next threat that is lurking around the corner, aka Doctor Doom.
Plus, there is also the fact that Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor deserves redemption after the hot mess that was Love and Thunder.
2. Sam Wilson’s Captain America

Steve Rogers passed on his shield to Sam Wilson, leaving him behind to deal with the heavy responsibilities of being Captain America. What began with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier transpired into something greater in the recently released Captain America: A Brave New World, which failed to impress the fans. It only makes sense that Anthony Mackie will return to the scene in Avengers: Doomsday, especially since his film’s post-credit scene apparently hinted at Doctor Doom’s impending appearance. Since Steve was the leader of the OG Avengers, will Sam be stepping into his friend’s shoes?
3. Captain Marvel

One of the strongest in the Marvel universe, Brie Larson‘s Captain Marvel could very well join the next generation of the Avengers. After all, Doctor Doom is a multiversal threat at the end of the day.
Love the actress or hate her, you have to agree that having Captain Marvel on the team will increase the superheroes’ chances of winning by a whole lot. She was last seen in The Marvels which heavily underperformed at the box office.
4. Doctor Strange

Of course, our favorite wizard has to make a comeback in the future as we have already established that he is truly a force to reckon with. With magic strong enough to open portals to other worlds, Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Stephen Strange will make a fantastic teammate. That is, if he doesn’t mess things up like he did in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although, we won’t complain if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield return…
Earlier, Cumberbatch claimed that his character wouldn’t return for Doomsday but a few days later changed his tune stating, “I got that wrong, I am in the next one” (via Business Insider). Whether he was cleaning up his mess or telling the truth remains to be seen. However, he as an Avenger does make sense!
5. Spider-Man

Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker has learned his ways from the best of the best, Tony Stark. When Robert Downey Jr.‘s character took Peter under his wing, he managed to instill some values in the young boy that would go on to help him soar the skies as Spider-Man.
In Avengers: Infinity War, Tony did “officially” make Peter an Avenger so he would fit in the new squad perfectly! We wonder how the young superhero will tackle the next big responsibility on his shoulders, especially since no one remembers him thanks to a certain wizard’s spell. There is no debate about his strength and powers but will being in the Avengers without his mentor be difficult on the boy?
6. Shang-Chi

Introduced in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Simu Liu‘s character quickly became a fan favorite. With his exceptional martial arts skills and the mystical Ten Rings at his disposal, Shang-Chi is more than qualified to join the new Avengers team.
He would be a formidable opponent for Doctor Doom, given his origins and powers. Not only does he have unmatched combat skills, but the Ten Rings have some extraordinary abilities that are yet to be explored. What better chance to do so than in Doomsday?
While we sure will miss the OG gang, their being out of the picture opens the door to new possibilities and paves the way for a new generation of heroes to take over the mantle. As the MCU gears up for its next big bad – Doctor Doom – these heroes have the power and courage needed to stand up to him and save what’s theirs.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theatres on May 01, 2026.
