The White Lotus season 3 is bringing back a familiar face, Greg Hunt, and if you remember his storyline in previous seasons, we can likely assume he’ll play a role in the looming drama of this season.
The long-awaited season 3 premiere of The White Lotus had us gripped on Sunday, Feb. 16 and viewers are already laying out their theories for what lies ahead for the guests at this season’s luxury resort in Thailand.
Like previous seasons, the first episode began to lay the groundwork for this season’s always-unexpected murder plot but one early twist of season 3 took us by surprise. In one of the last scenes in the episode, Aimee Lou Wood’s character Chelsea strikes up a friendship with a model named Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon). After bonding over their much-older boyfriends, Chloe points to her boyfriend across the restaurant.
“Honestly, he’s so f— boring I almost don’t even care,” she says. Then, completely unexpectedly, the camera pans to Greg! That’s right, it’s season 1 and season 2 Greg Hunt, played by Jon Gries.
Don’t exactly remember him? Not to worry, we’ve got it covered. Jog your memory about his character and why his backstory might come into play this season, below!

Who Is Greg in ‘The White Lotus’?
Greg is the ex-husband of Tanya McQuoid, Jennifer Coolidge’s character in season 1 and 2 of the show. He also may have played a role in the plot to murder her so is presumed to be in hiding in season 3 of The White Lotus.
In season 1, we’re introduced to Greg through his flirtations with Tanya at the White Lotus resort in Maui. At first, it seems like Tanya and Greg have a lot in common: they’re both lonely and single and craving some attention. Plus, when they start to open up to one another, Greg reveals to Tanya that he has a terminal disease. Without hesitation, she then takes away funding from Belinda’s (Natasha Rothwell) wellness venture to take care of him.
By the time season 1 wraps, they leave together as a happy couple.

What Happened to Greg in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 2?
At the start of Season 2, Greg and Tanya are revealed to be married and show up at the White Lotus hotel in Sicily. But, since episode 1, something is obviously off between them. Greg is no longer sick but seems to detest his new wife. He also seems to be the only one who wanted to travel to Italy while Tanya, who has suspicions of Greg’s infidelity due to his frequent phone calls with an unknown caller, is determined to convince him to sign their prenup.
Halfway through the season, however, Greg eventually leaves on a mysterious business trip to Denver.
Without his company, Tanya confides in Quentin (Tom Hollander) and his friends. But as Tanya and Quentin get closer, Tanya begins to puzzle together hints that Quentin is Greg’s maybe-probably former lover. The biggest piece of evidence for this theory is an old photo seemingly of young Quentin and Greg, who is wearing a cowboy hat. Earlier in the season, Quentin shares the story of a meeting and falling in love with a “cowboy” while traveling in the United States in his younger years.
Most of all, she realizes that Quentin might’ve been hired by Greg to murder her so that they can take her money. And, she was right.

Sadly, by the end of the season, while Tanya is finally standing up for herself against Quentin and his coterie after piecing it all together, she falls off the boat they lured her on to with the intent to kill her. Instead of letting Quentin and his friends, aka “the gays,” come for her, she massacres the whole boat with her eyes closed but in the scuffle, she falls off the boat to her death.
Why Is Greg Back in Season 3?
What we know so far is that Greg is living near the Thailand resort with his much-younger girlfriend.
In the trailer for the rest of the season, there’s clearly some tension between Greg and Natasha, another season 1 character who is back for season 3. “One of our regulars was just asking about you,” Christian Friedel’s character Fabian tells Natasha. “He has a lovely girlfriend but he seems interested in you.”
“I think we should call the police,” she says back. We sense some tension and we can’t wait!
