What happened to Neighbours stars…fling with Friends star to legend’s tragic cancer battle as soap axed a SECOND time

IT’S the Australian soap with whacky storylines that kept Brits on the edge of their seats for the past 37 years.

But Neighbours has been axed for a second time after Amazon Prime announced it was pulling the plug on the beloved soap.

The fresh blow comes just two years after the streaming giant rescued the soap, when Channel 5 revealed they were dropping it.

It will now stop production this summer with the final ever episode being aired at the end of the year, The Sun has revealed.

Neighbours served as a springboard for many of the famous faces we know and love today in the world of TV, film and music.

Big names to have emerged include Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Natalie Imbruglia, Kylie Minogue, Liam Hemsworth and Holly Valance.

But what about the rest of the Ramsay Street residents? We look back at the soapland stars and how their lives have changed since their Neighbours debuts.

Natalie Imbruglia: Friends star fling

Natalie Imbruglia, 50, enjoyed a whirlwind appearance on Neighbours as Beth Brennan – who married on-screen partner Brad Willis in 1993 before they left together to move to Perth.

It proved a very good start for her career, as Natalie went on to become a hit singer with a chart-topping cover of Ednaswap’s Torn three years later.

As well as more musical success, she’s also appeared in movies like Johnny English.

In February 2022, Natalie won The Masked Singer when she was unmasked as Panda.

She dated Friends star David Schwimmer briefly in the 1990s before marrying rocker Daniel Johns in 2002, splitting in 2008.

She is now mum to a baby boy of five, conceived through IVF with sperm from an unnamed donor.

Alan Fletcher: Rocker on the side

Love rat Dr Karl Kennedy has been a source of scandal in the show after a string of affairs and make ups.

Actor Alan Fletcher, 67, has played him for more than 25 years and vowed to stay on the show for as long as they would have him.

The controversial character, played by Natalie Bassingthwaighte, 49, departed the show in 2006 after three years to focus on her music career.

Since then sang for electro-pop band Rogue Traders, hosted So You Think You Can Dance Australia, was a mentor on The X Factor Australia and placed third in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Australia in 2017.

She has been married twice, most recently to Rogue Traders bandmate Cameron McGlinchey, with whom she shares a daughter. They split in August 2023.

Shane Connor spent four years in the show

Shane Connor, 62, played Joe Scully in Neighbours for four years until 2003 – when he was fired from the show.

It was claimed the actor struggled with substance abuse after his brother’s death, which affected his work and eventually sued for wrongful termination, winning £179,000 in libel damages.

Connor married fellow Neighbours star Nell Feeney – who played Janelle Timmins – in 1994 and they had twins Thomas and Grace in 1995. They split in 1997.

He appeared in the horror flick Wolf Creek 2 and the cast of Wentworth, which he has had a recurring role on for a year from 2018.

Unlucky in love Toadie Rebecchi, played by Ryan Maloney, spent more 30 years on Ramsay Street and morphed from class clown to respected lawyer.

His character was engulfed in a bizarre storyline in which his presumed dead wife Dee Bliss returned to the show – but was actually a doppelganger trying to con him out of money.

In June 2024, he announced he was quitting the soap and turning his hand to directing and last year he toured in a one-man show called Toad on the Road.

Ryan, 45, who is much-loved by fans, also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2013 and came in third place.
