The alert comes into force tomorrow at 6am and will expire at 6pm.
Forecasters have warned some areas of the country could see as much as 70mm of rainfall on higher ground on Friday.
Strong gusts of up to 70mph are also expected to batter the country tomorrow, with a yellow warning for wind in place from 8am until 3pm.
It covers Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire.
STV meteorologist Sean Batty said the total rainfall could exceed 100mm.
He added: “On Friday alone, areas such as Argyll, East Ayrshire, Stirlingshire, and Perthshire could see as much as 70mm of rain on higher ground.
“Combined with additional rainfall on Thursday and Sunday, totals could exceed 100mm in the wettest parts of the west Highlands and the western end of the Southern Uplands.
“To put that into perspective, Perthshire typically sees around 100mm of rain for the entire month of February, meaning some areas could receive three weeks’ worth of rain in just a few days.
“Other particularly wet spots will include the higher areas of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, where around 60mm could fall—Clyde Muirshiel will be especially wet.”
Following on from a cold snap, Scotland is set to be hotter than Greece at the end of this week.
The Met Office says temperatures in Glasgow will rise to highs of 12C today and tomorrow.
In comparison, Athens in Greece will only reach 7C in the coming days.
Despite the warmer days, rain is set to lash the city throughout this evening and tomorrow.
The Met Office forecast for this weekend reads: “Wet and windy with strong to gale force southerly winds, perhaps severe at first.
“The rain heavy and persistent, but drier and brighter conditions spreading from the west by evening. Maximum temperature 12C.

It comes weeks after Scots were battered by 100mph winds as deadly Storm Eowyn wreaked havoc on the country.
Millions received an emergency alert on their phones urging them to watch for flying debris as the Met Office issued the rare red danger to life warning.
Fallen masonry, trees and flying debris caused an estimated £500million of damage.
Tens of thousands of homes were also plunged into darkness as engineers worked day and night to restore power.
