BROADCASTER Colm Hayes faced the ultimate temptation on his birthday – as host Lucy Kennedy surprised him with a birthday cake in studio.
The makers of TV show Operation Transformation have teamed up with The Irish Sun and The Classic Hits Radio for the 2025 health series.
For 40 days, Colm and 15 other contestants aim to eat well, move more and focus positively on mental health.
Classic Hits Radio bosses decided to hit Colm with another challenge.
They said: “It’s Colm’s birthday today… and we did something very cruel to celebrate.”
His co-host Lucy Kennedy surprised Colm, 63, with a mouth-watering chocolate birthday cake.
She joked: “Happy 75th Birthday! Take the cake. Take the cake.
“Now, unfortunately, you can only sniff it because the 40 Day Health Challenge.
“No, no, no. Sniff, sniff. Happy birthday!”
Colm chuckled: “Thank you very much. Thank you. It’s a thrill being 45.”
Lucy added: “Now you can’t eat it so give it back.”
Classic Hits Radio chiefs stirred a big debate on Instagram.
They asked: “Should Colm have a slice and break the 40 Day Challenge?”
One person said: “It’s about balance… It shouldn’t be restrictive that occasional treats should be allowed and encouraged.”
The 40 Day Challenge recruit Colm happily agreed.
Fans took to social media to wish the radio host a very happy birthday.
One person said: “Happy birthday Colm, you look amazing well done. Lucy leave him alone!”
Another said: “Eat the cake, start again tomorrow, happy birthday.”
While another suggested: “No, you will feel empowered to refuse the cake; have a slice of cake and wine after the 40 days, as you can see you are doing great.
“You will feel better if u say NO. In fairness Lucy could have gotten you a rice cake.”
