Sohum highlighted the challenges faced by producers today. “Being a producer is the toughest job. Acting looks like the best job in the world – a little preparation, 10-20 days of shooting, and then you’re the face of the film. In promotions, the actor is always in the spotlight,” Sohum said. “But the producer’s job is a thankless one. No one asks about the producer. People assume that the producer has no idea about the process, and that’s a big problem in today’s industry. The question of why films aren’t succeeding at the box office stems from the fact that producers have been removed from the ecosystem. Since corporates have come in, directors have their own production houses, and the role of the producer has been relegated to that of a line producer with no creative input or stake in the project.”
Sohum also pointed out that in the South, producers are still playing a vital role by taking risks with their investments. “In business, there is no fun without taking risks. These days, everyone is playing it safe, but I want to make the kind of films I believe in, which is why I make them myself,” he explained.
He further emphasized his approach to finding the right collaborators for his projects. “I can identify good people and work with them – that’s my quality,” Sohum shared. “When I read this script, it was a page-turner, and I saw in Girish Kohli that he genuinely wants to make this film with sincerity and passion. I want to make every script that is unique and stands out, something different.”
