The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued the warning.
Upon opening, some bottles contained glass fragments, leading to the recall.
If glass is present in a beverage, it can lead to severe injuries, including cuts or lacerations in the mouth, throat or along the digestive tract.
Due to these potential health hazards, the product was issued a recall notice to prevent any harm to consumers.
The FSAI said: “Heineken UK is recalling the above batches of Newcastle Brown Ale due to the presence of glass fragments upon opening the bottles.
“Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores.”
The affected batches are 500ml bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale.
The batch codes are L4321, L4322, L4323, L4324, L4325 and L4326, with a best before date of 30/11/2025.
They have been sold at various retailers across the country including Dunnes Stores, Tesco and Lidl.
The affected batches have been issued a category one alert, which is given when there is an imminent risk to public health.
Wholesalers and distributors have been requested to contact their affected customers and recall the implicated batches and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retail customers.
And buyers have now been told to throw away the product immediately.
The FSAI added: “Consumers are advised not to drink the affected batches.”
This follows the recall of batches of The Happy Pear products due to the possible presence of animal matter.
CONTAMINATION FEARS
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued the warning this afternoon.
Some canned chickpeas in The Happy Pear products may have accidentally come into contact with animal matter.
This poses a major risk to people who follow plant-based diets, like vegans or vegetarians, or those with allergies to animal products.
It’s also a concern for anyone who avoids animal products for ethical or religious reasons.
The FSAI said: “The Happy Pear is recalling specific batches of its products listed below, which contain canned chickpeas as an ingredient.
“The affected batch of canned chickpeas is subject to recall due to the possible presence of animal matter.
“Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.”
The affected batches are The Happy Pear Red Pepper Hummus, Caramelised Onion Hummus, Reduced Fat Hummus, Hummus Triple Dip, and Moroccan Style Hummus.
The batch numbers, in order of the items listed above, are 4304, 4305, 4304, 4303, and 4305.
