A MAN, aged in his 30s, has died in a workplace accident in Co Wicklow.
The incident took place at a premises in Arklow at around 5:30pm on Tuesday evening.
It is understood that the young man was fatally injured while attempting to remove a forklift truck from a ditch.
Gardai and emergency services were alerted of the incident and rushed to the premises but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The Health and Safety Authority were notified of the incident and have launched an investigation.
A spokesperson for the HSA said: “The HSA are aware of this incident and have launched an investigation. No further information is available at this time.”
Gardai confirmed that they attended the scene on Tuesday evening and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson said: “His body was removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
“The Health and Safety Authority were notified and attended the scene.
“A file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.”
Brian Brennan, Fine Gael TD for the Wicklow Wexford constituency, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with this young man’s family and friends.”
The tragedy in Arklow took place just one day before a man in Donegal was killed in a workplace accident.
A man, aged in his 60s, died following an incident at a premises in Ballyshannon at around 1pm yesterday afternoon.
No details of the incident have been released yet.

“A male in his 60s was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The Health and Safety Authority were notified and attended the scene. A file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.”
