Tom Selleck Celebrates Milestone 80th Birthday With Solo Trip to McDonald’s Drive-Thru

Tom Selleck rang in his 80th birthday with a treat from McDonald’s. In photos obtained by Closer, the Blue Bloods star was seen in the drive-thru of the fast food chain picking up a meal.

The photos were captured on Tuesday, January 28, one day before the TV icon celebrated his big milestone. In one picture, Tom was seen holding a bag of food that was handed to him by the person at the drive-thru window. In another picture, he held a cup and a straw in his hand.

The outing came just one month after the Magnum, P.I. alum waved goodbye to Blue Bloods and his character, Frank Reagan, whom he portrayed for 14 seasons. He admitted that ending the show was difficult, as it meant that he would not be seeing his costars every day.

“The family of actors is as close as the Reagan family and the characters that they play,” he said during an interview with TV Insider on October 3, 2024, when asked what aspect of the show he’d miss the most. “There’s isn’t a single one of them who didn’t want to come back. Most shows don’t end that way — there’s petty jealousy and all sorts of things – and we seemed to overcome that. It’s something for everybody to hang their hats on and be proud of.”

But, a source told Closer that Tom’s wife, Jillie Mack, was planning on inviting some of his costars to Tom’s low-key birthday celebration.

“His wife and daughter are planning a big celebration at the farm with friends over to celebrate Tom and toast to his health and maybe roast him a little, too, all in good fun,” the source said earlier this month. “No doubt, some people from the show will be invited, like Donnie [Wahlberg] and Bridget [Moynahan], which Tom will like very much. They’re all like family to him.”

On his milestone birthday, several of Tom’s Blue Bloods costars posted tributes to him on social media.

“Missing this guy so much. Wishing him the happiest of birthdays! #80,” Bridget, 53, wrote in a post on her Instagram account, while costar Abigail Hawk penned, “Happy birthday, boss! Sure do miss being your Gal Friday! #80 #bluebloods #frankandbaker.”

After the CBS show ended, a separate source told Closer that Tom had no intention of slowing down his career at 80 and was hoping to find another CBS series to star on.

“Even as Blue Bloods winds down, Tom is already telling CBS to find a new series vehicle for him,” the source told Closer in December 2024 “The good news is that they’re very receptive to the idea and, as a network, CBS specializes in programming to the older demographic that has followed Tom since his Magnum P.I. days.”

“Listen, the only reason Blue Bloods is going away is because, overall, the show had become quite expensive, with a lot of cast and producers that need to be paid,” the source continued. “Putting Tom in a show with a smaller ensemble makes more business sense and make no mistake, Tom wants to keep making TV shows into his 80s and he absolutely hates the idea of retiring any time soon!”

But for now, it seems like there’s one big project he’s looking forward to handling: making another Jesse Stone movie.

“I haven’t worked on it yet,” he told Parade last month. “It would be an interesting challenge because Jesse is older now. There’ve been quite a few years between shows. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a viable character. Everywhere I go one of the things I get asked is, ‘When can I see another Jesse Stone?’”
