Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown is extraordinary, and the actor spent nearly six years preparing for the role. He mastered the singer’s mannerisms and voice and also delved deep into his psyche. In an interview with AP News, Chalamet spoke highly about Dylan.

Bob Dylan is not only someone whose behaviorism and whose presence as a cultural figure is iconic, but, more importantly, as a thinker, as an artist, as a shaper of American culture through the last 60, 70 years, he’s The Guy in a lot of ways.

His preparation for the role began with an unlikely source, i.e., the 1965 press conference in San Francisco. Chalamet referred to his songs, documentaries, interviews, and everything in between to master every aspect of Dylan. His dedication paid off immensely, and he was praised to no end for his performance.

Timothée Chalamet’s 2025 Best Actor nomination at the Academy Awards is a historic milestone because, at the age of 29, he is the youngest actor to receive two nominations in this specific category. He earned his first nod at the age of 22, for Call Me by Your Name in which he delivered another commendable performance.

If Chalamet wins this year, he will tie with Adrien Brody for the spot of the youngest Best Actor winner in the Oscar’s history. But as per reports from Variety, an anonymous Academy voter has commented that “there’s time for him,” as in he’s still too young to receive the honor.

Moreover, this year’s road to victory is full of challenges because Chalamet is facing tough competition from Brody himself who has swept all the awards for his role in The Brutalist.

The Academy also has a history of making actors wait, take Leonardo DiCaprio is the prime example of the same. So even though the young actor’s age is a testament to his prodigious talent, it’s also his biggest hurdle.
