IF you’re a movie or TV buff then a visit to Northern Ireland is a must to see the back drops of your favourites in person.

The must-see locations are dotted around locations in Antrim, Down and Derry.

Oscar and BAFTA-winning short film An Irish Goodbye, directed by Tom Berkeley and Ross White, was filmed across locations in Antrim and Down.

Famously, Game of Thrones made Northern Ireland its home over 10 years of filming across Down and Antrim.

Northern Ireland also boasts locations home to scenes in both The Fall and Line of Duty.

And of course you can visit the filming locations of Derry Girls during your trip to Northern Ireland, which is just two hours from Dublin.

Visiting movie and TV show filming locations as a form of getaway is becoming more popular among travellers.

Expedia data has revealed 66 per cent of travellers are now planning their trips around visiting famous filming locations.

The trend, known as set-jetting, is set to be one of 2025’s most popular travel trends.

And Discover Northern Ireland are encouraging movie buffs to hop on the trend without jetting abroad.

These are the movie and TV filming locations you can visit up North.

GAME OF THRONES

Game of Thrones filming locations have been drawing fans to Northern Ireland for years thanks to the show’s success.

Fans of the show will be familiar with Winterfell Castle and the Dark Hedges as key backdrops to the hit fantasy show.

At Winterfell Castle you can enjoy a range of activities including archery and axe throwing.

And you can even pick up a map that will lead you on a guided tour of the filming locations.

And in Belfast you can visit six stained glass windows depicting famous scenes from the show.

And you can take a Game of Thrones studio tour[/caption]

You can also embark on the Journey of Doors tour to visit 10 doors crafted from the bark of fallen trees from the Dark Hedges.

And of course Game of Thrones fans know the famous Dark Hedges location in Antrim is a must visit.

Die-hard fans will also love the world’s only Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Down where you will see props, costumes, sets and weapons from the series.

THE FALL

The 2013 thriller series starring Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson has been a smash hit.

And fans of the show should visit Belfast to see some of the reoccurring locations of the series.

The Invest NI building on Bedford Street will be recognisable as the AC-12’s headquarters and you can stop for a bite to eat in the James St restaurant which is featured in season three.

And viewers will instantly recognise the infamous graffiti underpass located near the Albert Memorial Clock and the Royal Courts of Justice.

LINE OF DUTY

Another must-visit for fans of a crime thriller series is the Botanic Gardens in Belfast that feature prominently in The Fall.

And if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in the city, the Merchant and Malmaison Hotels also featured prominently in the series.

DERRY GIRLS

Derry Girls has become a beloved part of Northern Ireland’s culture, even getting its own dedicated mural.

You can visit the mural of Claire, James, Orla and Michelle at Badger’s Bar.

Elsewhere you can visit The Guildhall where the famous “I am a Derry Girl” speech was filmed or the original four gates of the city wall at Bishop’s Gate.

You can also take a 90 minute guided tour with Martin McCrossan’s City Tours where you will see more of the filming locations.

And of course you can step in to the Quinn household The Derry Girls Experience at the Tower Museum.

AN IRISH GOODBYE

In Co Antrim you can see the Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge which was one of the 100 things to do on Turlough and Lorcan’s bucket list in the short film.

The rope bridge is suspended 30 metres above the Atlantic Ocean and connects Carrick-A-Rede island with Ballintoy.

And in County Down you can visit the Mourne Mountains that Turlough and Lorcan climbed in the award-winning short.

Here you will find beautiful scenery and forestry.

This mountain range was also the inspiration behind C.S Lewis’ Narnia Chronicles.

LIFT

And to finish off your Northern Ireland experience why not call into Crown Liquor Saloon in Belfast.

Located on Great Victoria Street in Belfast, the bar featured in the 2024 film Lift, starring Kevin Hart and Pierce Brosnan.
