Actor Charlie Cox is synonymous with the role of Matt Murdock / Daredevil, having debuted as the character on the Netflix series. After almost a decade since the original series debuted, Cox is prepared to don the red cowl of the Man without Fear once more for the upcoming MCU series Daredevil: Born Again, a literal second chance for the complex attorney-turned-vigilante.

Ahead of the new show’s premiere, Cox sat down to discuss several aspects of his long journey as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. During the interview, Cox also revealed the heartwarming gift he received from one Marvel legend that the actor proudly displays in his home. Here is what Cox had to say about the gift he received after his casting as Daredevil and his journey since.
Daredevil star Charlie Cox revealed the gift he received from Marvel legend Joe Quesada
Charlie Cox was cast as Matt Murdock / Daredevil for the Marvel Television series Daredevil, which first premiered on Netflix in 2015. The series received critical acclaim but was canceled after three seasons due to contract issues. After Marvel Studios regained the rights, a revival series Daredevil: Born Again was developed with Cox returning to the title role.

Cox recently sat down for a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, to discuss the upcoming series slated to premiere next month. During the interview, Cox reflected on when he was first cast as the character and received a framed page 1 of the 2004 comic miniseries Daredevil: Father.
I can look at that now and comfortably say that this character has changed my life as much as he changed Joe Quesada’s.
Cox made the above statement, regarding the gift he received from former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada, which he proudly displays on a wall at his home.
The British actor explained that Quesada sent him the illustration on the first day of production for the Netflix series. However, almost a decade later, Cox proudly admitted that the role had in fact changed his life similar to how the character turned Quesada into one of the best creatives at Marvel Comics.
Charlie Cox admitted he had given up on a Daredevil return

In the same interview, Cox also reflected on having to hang up his suit after the original series was canceled amidst a rights issue between Netflix and Marvel’s parent company Disney. As a result, Cox admitted that after almost two years he had given up on ever reprising the role until he received a call from Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.
Over two years had passed since the show had come out. It was 100 percent dead and buried for me.
Cox made the above comment to the publication, revealing he hadn’t heard about any chances of revival for almost two years.
Furthermore, the actor also explained that when Feige called, the initial discussions were only centered on cameo appearances, firstly in Spider-Man: No Way Home and later in She-Hulk. It wouldn’t be until the revival series was formally announced by Feige in July 2022, with a release scheduled for next month.
Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4, 2025.
