After a prolonged period of war and conflict international flights resumed at Damascus Airport on Tuesday under Syria’s new government. Analysts view this event as new chapter in country’s reconstruction efforts.
United States has temporarily eased some sanctions on Syria to ensure the flow of humanitarian aid. Following departure of Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s new government facilitated the first international flight from Damascus International Airport on Tuesday.
A Syrian Airlines plane departed for Sharjah in UAE. Qatar Airways also announced plans to operate three weekly flights to Syria.
New government is focusing on rebuilding key airports including Damascus and Aleppo while working to strengthen international relations.
Severe sanctions continue to pose challenges particularly in importing oil and food leaving the country’s economic recovery unstable.
