‘Sakamoto Days’ Is Actively Overshadowing Its Most Unique Assassin Because of Sakamoto’s Overpowering Skills

Yuto Suzuki’s Sakamoto Days has become one of the biggest anime series of 2025 with only six episodes under its belt. The series has garnered a lot of attention from anime fans and the majority of those fans have fallen in love with Sakamoto Days solely because of its protagonist, Taro Sakamoto. He is truly the perfect definition of a well-written main character.

Taro Sakamoto’s character has enhanced the experience of the Sakamoto Days storyline, and his constant interaction with the elements of his past provides great character development that’s too hard to go unnoticed. However, Taro Sakamoto’s storyline might have become a little too strong in Sakamoto Days, as it has started hurting the development of other characters.

The biggest victim of this is Shin Asakura, the former student of Taro Sakamoto and the current employee at his store. Just like Taro Sakamoto, Shin was also a world-class assassin, but his skills and abilities often get hidden behind Taro Sakamoto’s brilliance. This has proved to be a big problem for Shin as an individual character of Sakamoto Days.

Shin Asakura’s unique abilities as an assassin in Sakamoto Days

Shin was one of the first assassins in Sakamoto Days who launched an attack on Taro Sakamoto once the bounty was set on his head. As he was his student and his partner in the past, Shin knew that dealing with Taro Sakamoto would be a drag, but he still went on to kill him and as expected, he failed miserably. However, once he understood why Taro Sakamoto left the world of assassins, he joined him and started working in his store.

As the storyline progressed, Sakamoto Days’ fans got to learn more about Shin and his abilities, which made him a world-class assassin. Shin is an extremely capable assassin with strength and speed which is much more enhanced than a normal human being. Not only that, he is also a great fighter and thus has helped Taro Sakamoto deal with other assassins multiple times.

But his strongest ability is indeed the power to read minds. Shin can read the thoughts of other characters within a 400-meter radius which allows him to guess their moves and then act accordingly. It is essentially one of the strongest powers in the Sakamoto Days storyline.

Shin is constantly getting overshadowed by Taro Sakamoto

Although Shin is indeed a capable assassin, he cannot compete with Taro Sakamoto’s abilities in Sakamoto Days. Being one of the founding members of The Order, Taro Sakamoto is on a completely different level in terms of fighting skills, strength, speed, and durability. In fact, there are very few assassins in Sakamoto Days who could match Taro Sakamoto’s power.

And while it might feel like a good thing, Taro Sakamoto’s abilities have constantly hindered Shin’s character development unintentionally.

As a character, Shin has a lot of potential, and with a proper storyline, he can witness an unprecedented level of growth in the series. But being a part of Taro Sakamoto’s team makes it difficult for him.

Shin is without a doubt one of Sakamoto Days’ greatest assassins, but his frequent pairing with Taro Sakamoto gives the impression that he is a regular character. Hopefully, the series will find a way to bring Shin out of Taro Sakamoto’s shadow and give him the importance that he deserves within the Sakamoto Days storyline.

Sakamoto Days is available to watch on Netflix.
