Popeyes, the Louisiana chicken legends, opened their first store north of the border in 2023.

Fans queued for over 18 hours to be the first through the doors of the Barrhead branch.

Since then the brand has opened seven locations in the country overall.

Now bosses are set to launch the first Popeyes branch in Edinburgh this spring.

The all-new venue will be located in the former Halifax building at 131-133 Princes Street in the heart of the capital.

The restaurant will open with the full Popeyes menu, including fan favourites like the iconic Popeyes Chicken Sandwich, Tenders and Signature Chicken Wraps.

Popeyes’ new Saucin’ Boneless and Hot Wings will also be available from opening day.

The brand’s Saucin’ range features three New Orleans-inspired sauces, cheesy Garlic Parm, smokin’ Bold BBQ and spicy Buffalo.

Popeyes will also be serving up its breakfast menu from 8am to 11am, featuring the Big Cajun Roll, Cajun Hash Browns and indulgent Nutella-topped buttermilk biscuits.

Tom Crowley, Popeyes UK Chief Executive Officer, said: “An Edinburgh restaurant has been highly requested since we landed in the UK, so I’m delighted that we’re now able to make that a reality.

“We’ve seen our Scottish fans queue for up to 18 hours before an opening to be the first to taste our New Orleans inspired menu and I’m confident our new restaurant on the iconic Princes Street will be equally as popular.”

Founded in 1972, Popeyes aims to double the size of its current estate, with the addition of over 30 new UK restaurants, drive-thrus and delivery kitchens.

The brand hopes to generate a further 2,000 new jobs in the UK.
