Plumas County is collaborating with the City of Portola and five special districts to update their Local Hazard Mitigation Plans (LHMP). The update aims to include new plan annexes for the Grizzly Lake Community Services District, Indian Valley Community Services District, Plumas-Eureka Community Services District, Chester Public Utility District, and Feather River Resource Conservation District. The region faces hazards such as wildfire, floods, drought, and severe weather. While these natural hazards cannot be prevented, an LHMP provides a foundation for a community’s long-term strategy to minimize disaster losses by breaking the cycle of damage and reconstruction. The objective is to have a FEMA-approved multi-jurisdictional LHMP, enabling the county, city, and special districts to apply for both pre- and post-disaster mitigation grant funding.
Public participation is encouraged in the upcoming project kickoff meetings, where the multi-jurisdictional LHMP update process, the benefits of hazard mitigation planning, and community involvement will be discussed. The Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee meeting with partnering jurisdictions and stakeholders is open to the public. Meeting details are as follows:
– HMPC Meeting: Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Quincy Branch Library, 445 Jackson St., Quincy.
– Public Meeting: Tuesday, January 14, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., at Quincy Branch Library, 445 Jackson St., Quincy.
