It was claimed his massive hit Someone You Loved was written about her but he has said the song was actually a tribute to his late gran.
Now, Paige has shared an update on Lewis after seeing him recently, amid his musical hiatus.
Lewis took a break from the industry in 2023 to focus on his mental health and to get back into the right headspace after admitting that he was struggling on stage.
Paige told The Sun at the Geordie Shore launch: “The last time I saw him was a couple of months ago because we were both out for one of our friends’ birthday parties, and he’s doing much better in himself.
“It was really nice to see him and he’s doing well – I don’t know if he’s writing, but he’s doing much better in himself.”
She continued: “I obviously grew up with him so to see him in a low place has been difficult.
“It’s difficult because he’s been so under pressure as a global super star and I feel like the pressure has scared him a lot maybe.
“But I’ll say he really does seem like he’s in a much better place now.”
Last year, The Sun revealed that Lewis had gone back into the studio to have some jamming sessions with his pals.
And the Scottish star was also overheard talking about working on his third album in Gerry’s bar in London’s Soho.
The source told The Sun: “They told me: “Lewis was in Gerry’s with a couple of mates in London having some drinks and talking about his next album.
“He said he wanted to bring it out next year and was clearly really excited.
“Lewis seemed on top form and was really happy and smiley. Everyone who spotted him was starstruck — the man is a legend.”
Addressing his fans after he cut his set at Glastonbury short, Lewis told them: “The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.
“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped weeks away would sort me out.
“On Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.
“I’m so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve.
“Playing for you every night is all I have ever dreamed of doing so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can.”
Lewis headed back into the studio with British singer-songwriter Dan D’Lion in June last year, when he was snapped strumming on an acoustic guitar.
