Overwatch 2 Has a Sure-Shot Way of Winning the Fans Back if Blizzard Will Stop Being Greedy for Just One Second

It’s been a while since the release of Marvel Rivals, and the game has posed the most significant threat yet to the dominance of Overwatch 2 in the hero-shooter genre. Seriously, developer NetEase has one-upped the Blizzard game in almost every aspect and continues to out-develop.

Since the release of Marvel Rivals, Overwatch 2 has been on a decline, with players flocking to its rival without a second thought. Blizzard is desperately trying to save the game with new gameplay features and heroes, but that’s going to do nothing as long as the skin prices remain sky-high.

It’s time for Blizzard to give up its greed in Overwatch 2

Let’s be honest, one of the biggest issues plaguing Overwatch 2 right now is its notoriously expensive cosmetics. It’s not that uncommon to see skins available to purchase in the game that cost roughly $25, which is quite a steep price for a single in-game outfit.

To put Blizzard’s ridiculous skin pricing into perspective, most skins in Overwatch 2 cost $5 more than the original Overwatch standard edition before the free-to-play sequel replaced it.

Right at the sequel’s release, the brand-new monetization system adopted by Blizzard raised eyebrows. Players were hopeful that the developers would listen to the feedback and change things. However, it’s been more than 2 years, and we’ve seen nothing.

NetEase Games knew about Overwatch 2‘s flaws with cosmetic monetization and brought an incredible system to the game. If you’re someone who is looking to get premium skins in the hero-shooter, all you need to do is grind. That’s right, you don’t have to spend an absurd amount on cosmetics.

NetEase respects players who invest time in its game and rewards them with high-quality skins. That’s a completely different approach compared to Overwatch 2, which forces players to directly purchase skins and battle passes. Blizzard doesn’t care about player effort or time spent.

If Overwatch 2 is looking to reestablish its dominance, it needs to lower skin prices or bring a completely overhauled cosmetic system. A system like Marvel Rivals can help Overwatch 2 build a stronger and more dedicated player base.

Sure, it might take a hit on the revenue, but the benefits brought in by maximum player engagement will outweigh anything in the long run.

Overwatch 2 director explains the returns of loot boxes

In the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen a wave of Overwatch 2 announcements, but something that caught everyone’s attention was the reveal that loot boxes are making a return. They are not available for sale but can be obtained with free and premium battle passes, events, and weekly missions.

That’s not all; Blizzard wants to give players more opportunities to unlock cosmetic items and has promised to bring back the weekly tracker, which will reward gamers for their matches.

According to the game director Aaron Keller, the reason why Blizzard has added loot boxes back to the game is because it felt that Overwatch 2 wasn’t rewarding enough. While chatting with PCGamesN, Keller stated that this feeling was strong for the free-to-play side of the community.

Loot boxes are a system that allows us to be pretty generous, and our intention is to be very generous with the way we give loot boxes out to our players.

Keller hopes that the reintroduction of loot boxes in Overwatch 2 will help players feel that their time in the hero shooter was well spent. The developer team is excited about the return of this feature, as loot boxes will allow them to be “generous.”

The game director has also revealed that loot boxes will work differently in the game, and a lot of loot will placed in them. Most of the Overwatch 2 cosmetics that can be found in the store will also be found in the loot box system.

With that said, do you think there’s anything else Blizzard can do to make Overwatch 2 great again? Let us know in the comments again.
