Marvel Needs a New Nick Fury And Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Season 2 Already Has the Answer

Marvel Studios recently released the 35th installment in the MCU, with the franchise firmly headed for the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. The franchise’s second saga failed to reach the same heights it saw during the Infinity Saga. However, the franchise sorely missed one aspect from its early days that helped viewers connect the dots.

In the early days, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury connected the different solo films, uniting them for the crossover events and furthering the overall narrative. However, the franchise needed a new Nick Fury for the Multiverse Saga, and Loki season 2 hinted at the perfect replacement but it might now be too late to act on the setup. Here is why Marvel slept on the best Nick Fury replacement.

Marvel already hinted at the best Nick Fury replacement for the Multiverse Saga

Actor Samuel L. Jackson played the role of Nick Fury in the earlier installments of the MCU, making cameo appearances to link the solo films and flesh out the wider universe. However, since the franchise moved into its Multiverse Saga, Fury’s presence has been significantly reduced.

Moreover, Fury also does not seem like the right character to unite the Avengers for a multiversal conflict given his more terrestrial nature. Therefore, the franchise needed a replacement to take over Fury’s role, especially a character who is aware of the multiversal threats.

The second season of Loki expanded on some of the core concepts of the Multiversal Saga. As a result, Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki should’ve been the perfect candidate to replace Fury in the newer phases of the saga. Loki’s presence would’ve helped smooth over the disconnected nature of some films while helping build momentum for the saga’s conclusion.

Loki and Mobius should’ve been the Nick Fury and Agent Coulson of the Multiverse Saga

Aside from Fury, Agent Coulson was also extremely important in establishing the interconnected nature of the MCU in its early days. While expanding the shared universe into a multiverse, the franchise could’ve benefitted from having a similarly endearing character.

Mobius and Loki

The first and second seasons of Loki formed a strong relationship between the titular anti-hero and Owen Wilson‘s Mobius, a TVA agent. The TVA has been central to the Multiverse Saga similar to how SHIELD was integral to setting up the events of the Infinity Saga. Therefore, it would’ve made a lot of sense for Loki and Mobius to travel across the multiverse to warn heroes about incursions.

Furthermore, their experiences could’ve also helped the franchise transition from Kang the Conqueror to a different villain for the upcoming Secret Wars crossover event. However, both Loki and Mobius seemingly concluded their character arcs at the end of Loki season 2. Therefore, it seems the train has passed on having Loki and Mobius be the Multiverse Saga’s Fury and Agent Coulson, thereby helping connect the solo movies.

Loki is streaming on Disney+.
