Man, 80s, found dead in shed in Galway as probe launched with investigators treating death as tragic accident

A PROBE is underway after an elderly man’s body was found in a shed near a residential property in Co Galway.

Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised to the tragic discovery on Monday.

Upon arriving at the scene in Spiddal, Co Galway emergency services found the body of a man, 80s, deceased in a shed at the property.

The man’s remains were removed to University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination.

It is understood that the man’s death is being treated as a tragic accident and foul play is not suspected.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai attended following the discovery of the body of a male (aged in his 80s) at a residential location in Spiddal, Co. Galway, on Monday 27th January 2025.

“The body of the man was removed to University Hospital Galway for post-mortem examination. A file will now be prepared for the Coroner.”

Spiddal is a gaeltacht village roughly 18 kilometres west of Galway city in the Connemara region.
