Little-known car brand releases Tesla Cybertruck rival that’s legal to drive in the UK – offering comfort & practicality

TESLA’S highly divisive Cybertruck is, wrongly or rightly, one of the most recognisable vehicles in the world right now.

Even in the UK, where the three-tonne, bulletproof machine is not road-legal and does not hold a certificate of conformity, it’s instantly recognisable.

It’s been held up as a potential Cybertruck alternative in the UK[/caption]

Crash legislation in the UK and EU prevents the Cybertruck’s sale here – not least because of the sharp edges found on its unique, stainless steel bodywork.

But that hasn’t stopped some petrolheads from seemingly trying their luck, as just last month an example of the EV pickup was spotted on the roads in Greater Manchester – before it was property seized by cops.

But drivers keen on an all-electric pickup with a quirky style might be tempted by the next best thing – the new KGM Musso EV.

According to Autoexpress, the Musso EV represents a Cybertruck alternative that will be available to buy and drive legally on our shores by late 2025.

The Musso is already highly popular with pickup fans, so it’s only natural that KGM – which was previously known as SsangYong – opted to produce an all-electric version.

What’s more, this new iteration won’t just be a simple, zero-emissions equivalent of the existing, diesel-powered Musso.

In fact, the Musso EV is based on the recently launched Torres EVX electric SUV – meaning it comes with some surprising trimmings.

That includes the same levels of comfort and efficiency of the Korean-made SUV, but with all the practicality of a large load bed.

Autoexpress says both vehicles also feature the same front lighting signature and extensive use of black plastic cladding.

However, the traditional Musso rhino logo can be found on the C-pillar, while a roof rack, hard top canopy, roll bar and a bed floor that slides out for easier loading can all be fitted on.

Naturally, due to consumer demands, electric pick-up trucks are few and far between in the UK compared to the US.

But the KGM Musso EV will still face some competition, including the new Maxus eTerron 9 that’s coming soon, as well as the plug-in hybrid version of the best-selling Ford Ranger.

This comes as, earlier this week, Chinese brand Leapmotor launched its first electric vehicle models in the UK.

The little-known firm has teamed up with Stellantis – owner of Vauxhall, Peugeot, Fiat and others – to build and sell electric cars in Europe.

Now the T03 small EV and C10 electric midsize SUV have hit Britain – and their prices undercut most of their competitors – including Tesla.

The T03 stands out for its £15,995 price tag which makes it the UK’s second-cheapest electric car at just £1,000 more than the Dacia Spring.
