The world of The Chronicles of Narnia has long been appeasing fans worldwide, first through the book series and then through live-action. And while the last flick from the official film series — The Voyage of the Dawn Treader — was released almost a decade and a half ago, Greta Gerwig is all set to revive the saga with a reboot.
However, as tremendously acclaimed a filmmaker as the Barbie director is and as epic as the fantasy lore by C. S. Lewis is, fans are already keeping their expectations low with this upcoming revamped Narnia universe. This is because the brains behind the same are reportedly planning a whopping 8 movies in the series, which is nothing short of disastrous news in itself.
Greta Gerwig’s Narnia is planning an 8-installments film series
While she already cemented herself in the entertainment industry as an actress with Greenberg (2010) before proceeding to earn a name for her directorial efforts as well through 2017’s Lady Bird, actress cum filmmaker Greta Gerwig further solidified fans’ assumptions of her excellence with 2023’s smash-hit billionaire-box-office hitting masterpiece Barbie.
Of course, that was all fans needed to ensure that the addition she was going to make to the live-action universe of The Chronicles of Narnia would be truly iconic as well. However, the latest reports about the same are making fans rethink their decision to extend their complete support to Gerwig for helming and reviving C. S. Lewis’s fantasy lore back to life.
This is because, according to @DiscussingFilm on X, the Little Women director’s franchise is already planning more than enough installments for the film series. As per what IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond has to say, he believes that Gerwig’s Narnia reportedly has 8 movies planned for release already, even before the franchise is kickstarted with the first movie in the series.
Though some might take this as good news from a positive perspective by expecting more adventure, it’s pretty much disastrous because planning so many movies in advance only ends up mudding the waters. In fact, having such peaking faith in a franchise even before the release of its first film is simply overconfidence and could lead to a lot of things going wrong.
Fans aren’t holding their breath for a pre-planned 8-installment Narnia film series
As mentioned before, pre-planning so tremendously even before kickstarting a universe isn’t really a good idea, because if even the first film ends up disappointing fans it would lead to the franchise’s tumultuous falling apart. This is, of course, not a good thing if the masterminds behind it all are really, really planning to deliver.

To put it in a nutshell, planning these many movies in advance for a franchise that is yet to even hit the screens, with the ostensible hope of succeeding, sounds a bit too ambitious even for a saga to be tamed by a visionary like Greta Gerwig.
