The Los Angeles Lakers will be the first team back on the court after the All-Star break. JJ Redick and company will play in the only game in Wednesday night’s NBA slate against the Charlotte Hornets in a game that was rescheduled from January’s fires in Los Angeles.
Luka Doncic is off of his minutes restriction, so the Lakers will finally be able to unleash him for the first time since he was traded to Los Angeles. However, the Lakers may have to get through Wednesday night without star forward LeBron James. James is listed as questionable for the game due to left foot soreness according to the NBA’s official injury report.
James was a late scratch from Sunday night’s NBA All-Star Game due to what he described as foot and ankle soreness, which is something that he has been dealing with on and off for the last few years. James’ decision to wait until right before the game before pulling out was certainly controversial, but it’s clear that this is something that is hampering him.
It may seem minor if James has to miss one game, but the Lakers will want as many games with their full rotation on the floor as possible. This roster has a lot of talent and the ability to compete in the Western Conference, but they have to build chemistry with Doncic in the rotation in order to be a true threat in the West.
If James doesn’t end up playing, Doncic will get to go back to being his Mavericks self, handling the ball almost all of the time and completely controlling the flow of the game on the offensive end.
James could also return for the second half of a back-to-back against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night. The Lakers will certainly be hoping that James is healthy in time for a monster clash against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night.
Overall, it doesn’t seem like this injury is anything to be extremely concerned about. James will likely miss some games here and there while he manages the injury, but he should be ready to go when the games get important late in the season.
