Kevin Feige Did Clark Gregg Dirty as Agent Coulson but ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Actor Hates Tom Hiddleston the Most for His “Great Heartbreak”

Fans are undoubtedly upset with how Kevin Feige did the MCU star Clark Gregg dirty by bringing him back in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and yet refraining from turning the show into a Marvel canon. But if you ask Gregg about his biggest regret surrounding Marvel, the actor would grind his teeth and blame Tom Hiddleston for stabbing him before he could fulfill his dream.

The dream you ask? Well, speaking with Collider, Clark Gregg reflected on his desire to meet the Queen of Wakanda played by Angela Bassett, while working under the Marvel banner. Unfortunately, as Tom Hiddleston’s Loki killed him in The Avengers, Gregg couldn’t fulfill his dream, until a non-Marvel show Zero Day united him with Bassett.

Clark Gregg hated Tom Hiddleston for killing his Marvel dream

Clark Gregg has unfortunately won hearts as Agent Phil Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who played a crucial role in the founding of the Avengers and shaping up the franchise. But his Marvel journey took a tragic turn when Tom Hiddleston’s Loki brutally stabbed him in The Avengers (2012).

Now, while it was an emotional moment for fans, it also shattered one of Clark Gregg’s biggest dreams. In a recent interview with Collider, the actor joked about how he holds a “grudge” against Tom Hiddleston, since their altercation in the 2012 movie. The reason? He never got to share the screen with the regal Queen Ramonda of Wakanda, played by Angela Bassett.

I did pull Angela aside after the table read [for Zero Day] and just say, ‘Listen, the one great heartbreak in my Marvel experience, other than that stinking God of mischief stabbing me, is that I never got to meet the Queen of Wakanda.

The actor claimed to have always admired Angela Bassett’s work and hoped to act alongside her in the MCU. But thanks to Loki’s deadly attack, that wish never came true. However, fate had other plans, as Gregg and Bassett finally crossed paths outside of the Marvel project—Netflix’s recently released thriller series Zero Day.

Though it wasn’t his dream Wakandan meeting he wanted, the experience was still a huge moment for him. And as for Hiddleston? Gregg playfully admits he’ll never fully forgive Loki for taking that Marvel moment away from him.

Fans are infuriated after Kevin Feige denied making Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. a Marvel canon

Well, while Clark Gregg seemed to hold his playful grudge against Tom Hiddleston, fans appear to be fuming over Kevin Feige—and not in a joking way. After Marvel announced Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2013, which brought back Agent Phil Coulson, fans were more than thrilled. But then suddenly, Feige dismissed the show from being a Marvel canon.

Despite bringing characters like Agent Coulson and Nick Fury from the MCU movies, Kevin Feige indirectly confirmed that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will never be considered a canon, due to inconsistencies in storylines and lack of event alignment with the movie timeline. Implying that despite the characters’ appearances, their stories sometimes diverge from the established movie narrative, Feige shocked fans with his decision.

Thereafter, although fans hoped for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to be a canon, as it featured beloved characters, and directly interacted with major MCU events that could help the show’s narrative to be fully integrated into the larger MCU timeline, Kevin Feige disregarded the pleas. Well, this decision remained a sore spot for fans, who believe Feige did Clark Gregg dirty, by bringing him back in the show and yet refraining from turning it into a canon.

But while fans considered Kevin Feige’s sick move as a betrayal from Clark Gregg, the actor seemingly considered Loki’s stabbing as far worse. After all, it not only killed his character but also his Marvel dream.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is currently available to watch on Disney+.
