Not many would turn down the prospect of enjoying an enthralling Hollywood courtroom drama. Ryan Reynolds might get to see one live – as the tensions between his wife Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have escalated to an uncontrollable level.
While both sides haven’t left any stone unturned to make their mark felt, Ryan Reynolds made a passing reference to the episode at SNL 50. And that has brought him under the spotlight yet again.
Ryan Reynold manages to steal the limelight (for the wrong reasons)
What was meant to be a remarkable occasion for Saturday Night Live (it was the sketch comedy’s 50th-anniversary special), has landed Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively in a controversy yet again.
Many stars graced SNL 50, including the likes of Alec Baldwin, Miley Cyrus, Cher, Adam Driver, Kim Kardashian, Scarlett Johansson, Sabrina Carpenter, and Tom Hanks, amongst other big names. But all eyes are now on the Deadpool & Wolverine star and his partner.
In what was a U-Turn on their decision to not go to ceremonies where they did not stand to win anything and spend time with their family (they skipped the Golden Globes for these reasons only), they decided to take some time out of their hectic schedule to show their faces to the world. And they did not sit silent.
When Tina Fey and Amy Poehler asked how Ryan Reynolds was doing, he had the typical sarcastic response (albeit one which did not go down well with many fans). He said,
Great. Why? What have you heard? (X)
Anyone can guess what the intent behind this statement was, and to whom it was directed. Sadly, while the Green Lantern star would have hoped that his trademark humor would help him emerge on the right side, that was far from what actually happened.
Ryan Reynolds’ joke did not go down well with fans (and Justin Baldoni’s attorney)
Blake Lively is involved in a spree of litigations initiated by both her and Justin Baldoni. The All I See Is You star started things off by suing him for sexual harassment and causing emotional distress on the sets of It Ends With Us.
Baldoni followed that up with a counter-suit to the tune of $400 million, also bringing Ryan Reynolds and publicist Leslie Sloane into the ambit of the counter-suit. Things are truly getting heated up.
As the battle was approaching a fever pitch, the 48-year-old made the (what many would deem to be a reckless) joke that has provided fresh ammunition to team Baldoni.
Bryan Freedman, the attorney representing the 41-year-old knows that the comments are a shot in his arms. While in conversation with Bully Bush, Freedman did not shy away from discussing how the dynamics have changed now.
I’m unaware of anybody frankly whose wife has been sexually and has made jokes of that type of situation. I can’t think of anyone who has done anything like that. It surprised me.
X users also seemed to concur with Freedman’s opinion. Many viewed it as just a stunt that went very wrong.
Seems like Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are grasping for straws that would allow them to have a foothold in this situation. Sadly, fans are having none of their narrative. Only time will tell who the law sides with.
