Join Us in Preserving Lake Almanor’s Rich Fishing Legacy

As the Almanor Fishing Association (AFA) embarks on our 2025 Membership Drive, we would like to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for your past membership. If you were not a member in 2024, we invite you to join the AFA family as we enter our thirty-ninth year of promoting, preserving, and enhancing the Lake Almanor Fishery.

In 2024, thanks to the generosity of our members and business sponsors, AFA successfully hosted the sixth annual Veterans Fishing Day on Lake Almanor. More than 170 veterans were treated to a memorable day of fishing and a barbecue at Lake Almanor Country Club, Rec 1.

Additionally, for the third consecutive year, we provided every fourth grader in Plumas County with a new fishing rod and reel. AFA volunteers also conducted eight Youth Fishing Clinics at Lake Almanor Country Club, Rec 1, where young attendees received their own fishing gear.

Looking ahead, we are proud to continue our Fish Pen Program, which will raise approximately 50,000 Rainbow Trout and 10,000 Brown Trout this year. These fish will be fed daily from October until their release in April, weather permitting. As we approach the milestone of releasing our two-millionth trout into Lake Almanor in 2025, we want to extend special recognition to the dedicated volunteers who make this program possible. Their unwavering commitment is essential to the success of our fish pen initiative.

AFA is also excited to announce that we have begun the process of replacing our 39-year-old fish pens. In 2022, we replaced four pens and docking systems, and in 2023, we replaced two additional pens and docking. However, there is still work to be done, as the final four pens need replacement to ensure the continued success of this vital program.

Furthermore, AFA continues to collaborate with other community stakeholders in the effort to prevent additional cold-water releases from Lake Almanor. The AFA Board has allocated $5,000 to support this important cause, and we remain committed to doing whatever it takes to protect the cold-water ecosystem and our world-class fishery.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support of the AFA.

We look forward to seeing you on the lake!

Sincerely,

AFA Board of Directors
