“It’s like Avowed has child safety locks on”: Avowed vs Skyrim Heated Comparison While We Wait For the Elder Scrolls 6

Avowed is out, and players have now spent significant time in the game. Hence, there are a lot of new things about it that have just started to resurface. Including its annoying safety system that aims to hold your hand and guide you through the map without letting you make any bad decisions.

Avowed’s release has sparked a debate concerning its similarities with Skyrim. Players have been discussing the differences and similarities between the two games as they wait for the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6.

Obsidian’s latest release Avowed imposes a lot of safety measures to help players avoid making bad decisions in the game. This aspect of the game is not being appreciated by fans of the RPG genre, including Skyrim since the other games give players a lot of freedom to make mistakes and then learn from them.

Skyrim never holds players’ hands, in fact, it just throws you in the middle of a conflicted land and lets you fend for yourself. There are a lot of differences as well as similarities between Skyrim and Avowed.

The biggest difference is the different approach to player freedom. The journey from cluelessness to mastery excites fans and enables them to approach the game creatively and personally. However, Avowed has kept Obsidian’s reputation of inviting modders intact.

However, when a game like Avowed, which is also known for its player freedom, creates barriers around bad decisions and forces players to follow only the desired path, it fails to offer the same level of immersion and personal relationship with the game as opposed to games like Skyrim.

Skyrim does some things better than Avowed

Even after a decade since its release, Skyrim is still managing to give tough competition to games released in 2025. It still does some things better that games like Avowed need to learn as well.

The water and arrow physics are way better in Skyrim than in Avowed. Even some of the magic VFX in Skyrim feels larger than life in the latter. However, Avowed does a great job at the graphical representation of its world, but it still has scope to get better.

Avowed is a good game with a lot to offer and until Elder Scrolls VI hits the market the competition between it and Skyrim shall prevail. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
