IRELAND has spent almost €26 million already preparing to host the Ryder Cup in 2027, the Irish Sun can reveal.
The biggest tournament in golf will be played in the plush surrounds of Adare Manor in Co Limerick in 2027 when superstars from the US and Europe go head to head.

Billionaire businessman JP McManus is said to be spending around €100 million in order to bring the famous golf tournament to his Adare Manor hotel.
The Irish State has also committed to fork out €58 million on the tournament with new figures showing that the Department of Sport has already spent almost half of this cash two years before the event.
Figures from the Department show that €26 million has been spent on the Ryder Cup up to the end of 2024.
This includes €3.7 million on marketing and €17.4 million on licensing fees.
A further €4.8 million of the Ryder Cup cash was spent host supporting the Irish Open, the Challenge Tour and the Legends Tour tournaments.
The Department told the Irish Sun that as part of the deal with the European Tour to bring the Ryder Cup to Ireland, the State is providing financial support to other Irish golf events to “strengthen the professional game in Ireland”.
This agreement has seen the Department of Sport fork out €500,000 per year on the Irish Open since 2021 and €350,000 per year each for the Legends Tour and Challenge Tour.
This spend will continue up to 2027 when the Ryder Cup is due to take place.
Before this, the Department spent nothing on these tournaments.
Labour TD Alan Kelly has been probing the State’s spending on the Ryder Cup as he calls for more transparency on the cost of hosting the event.
The Tipperary TD told the Irish Sun: “Bringing the Ryder Cup to Ireland is a great boost to Irish tourism.
“However, I’m not sure why we can’t get full details of costings exclusively for the Ryder Cup from the Government and then judge that as part of the overall spend for hosting the event.
“This should be possible and I don’t know why it’s not possible.”
COST PROJECTION
The Dail’s Public Accounts Committee were previously told that the State would spend €58 million hosting the Ryder Cup.
Department of Sport officials told the Committee that the 2006 Ryder Cup held in the K Club in Co Kildare was worth €143 million to the economy.
Officials could not tell the PAC how much Adare Manor is paying to host the event.
