A Nigerian man, Khaleel Ado Ogara, has advised youths from poor families not to take the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) if they have not been offered any scholarship Ogara, who gave the advice in a Facebook post on Wednesday, January 8, said they should rather learn basic skills and trade. In my frank opinion, if youre from a poor family and no one did promise you any scholarship, be it fully funded or partially funded, please avoid taking JAMB, he wrote. You can learn some basic skills, you can learn trading and even do some menial jobs to sustain yourself temporarily till you get that breakthrough and consequently proceed to school if Allah wills. The bitter truth is, not everyone is destined to be a graduate. However, in some economically stable countries, your WASSCE result equivalent can be enough to fetch you a job. Unfortunately, this is not the case here but it is still the foundation to build upon. I really dont find it honorable for someone to be seeking school fee assistance online in the beginning of 100level. How do you intend to feed and perhaps buy books? How do you intend to pay your subsequent school fees? wouldnt it be boring if you come back after a while to ask for another school fee? We can most probably assume that academic excellence wouldnt even be guaranteed while youre studying and concurrently looking for what to eat. May Allah help us all and richly bless all givers, regardless.
