A SAVVY woman has shared how she transformed her staircase without professionals after being quoted £1,500 to get the job done.
Nikita Keeler took to social media to show off the transformation which cost her and her husband just £160 to do themselves.
The staircase was dated and lacking character before[/caption]
Now it looked much more modern and expensive – and it cost them just £160[/caption]
Sharing images of the DIY task, she said: “After getting charged £1500 just to do the stairs (I) got the runner from Dunelm for only £160.
“Instead of paying for the top landing carpet, sanded the original floor & finally finished.
“Even though we nearly got divorced by the end of sanding & painting every floorboard.”
Nikita showed what the stairs in her home looked like prior to the transformation which was kitted with black banisters, a fuzzy black carpet, and bright red walls.
But it now looked much more modern and luxurious thanks to her money-saving task.
She and her husband stripped the carpet back and sanded down each floorboard and banister to start.
Nikita swapped out the black paint for a glossy white colour and then added a Herringbone Border Runner from Dunelm to the centre of the stairs.
In total, she spent £160 on the runners – which cost £65 each.
She attached one to the top hallway and the rest on the stairs – using metal rods to keep it down.
She revealed she simply used furniture glue to fix the runner to the stairs.
The final touch consisted of adding their wedding photos to the top of the hallway and adding some gold bar lights from Temu to create ambiance.
The post shared to the Facebook group, DIY on a budget official, has since gone viral with over 1.6k likes and hundreds of comments.
People couldn’t believe how well the DIY job turned out.
One person wrote: “Love it, it’s beautiful.”
