Flight Risk may have been a very flawed film that didn’t work on many levels, but there’s one thing that it got exactly right: Mark Wahlberg is at his best when playing comically over-the-top villains. There’s something about his particular acting style that just works in these hilariously melodramatic action movies, and it’s an archetype that he’s not explored too frequently throughout his filmography. Wahlberg’s best action movies are typically the ones that don’t take themselves seriously, and while Flight Risk ultimately flopped because of its weak script, it certainly got that right.
