‘I know it sounds privileged’ – Ireland AM star Muireann O’Connell reveals ‘most hated part’ of her job

IRELAND AM star Muireann O’Connell has revealed the “most hated part” of her job.

The Limerick beauty told her fans today that she put herself on a “personal spending ban” but can still shop for work outfits.

Muireann is renowned for her stylish work looks on Ireland AM and revealed that she picks out her fashion forward fits herself.

The popular presenter said that her work “has nothing” to do with her outfits and she has to buy her own clothes as there’s “no stylist” and “no allowance”.

And although Muireann impresses viewers with her fabulous outfits, she actually “hates” shopping.

She explained: “And this is the part of my job that I hate the most. I realise how ridiculous and privileged that sounds.

“But it takes up so much time and I hate shopping. I’ve never enjoyed it. I’ve never been good at it. I’ve never really been good at makeup.

“So it’s something that I’ve had to learn and I’m probably still really s*** at it. So with the clothes situation, you know, I re-wear all the time.

“I’ve been wearing stuff from four, five, six, seven years ago, but I do buy new clothes for work as well. So I go out and I do that normally on a Sunday… when I’m slightly hungover – I don’t. It’s not the best.”

Muireann revealed that some “lovely shops” loan out their clothes to her, which she returns after wearing them on the TV.

And some stores even give her clothes she gets to keep which Muireann said is a “flipping amazing perk of the job”.

The former radio star also explained how her production team have somewhat of an input saying :”What work do have to do with outfits is telling us what works and doesn’t as some colours/patterns/blends of clothes aren’t allowed.

“They strobe on the telly. Eg. tight stripes or white.”

Muireann finished off her wardrobe explanation saying: “There are loaners. This has been going on since the dawn of telly. All the models you’d see on our show, all loaned clothes.

“I am not paid to wear any clothes but god would that be fantastic and I am no way against it. If I ever am, you’ll see the hashtag ad.”

FASHION FORWARD

The Virgin Media star was back on screens this week alongside her usual co-presenters Tommy Bowe, and Alan Hughes, who has been missing from the show since early December.

Muireann was delighted yesterday morning when Alan returned to the Ireland AM family after almost five weeks away.

The three mainstay hosts were in top form when they reunited in the Dublin studios to film the episode.

And Muireann looked incredible as she joined Tommy and Alan wearing a figure hugging knitted dress from Anna Louise Boutique.
