How Scott McTominay has overshadowed the ENTIRE Man Utd midfield this season

MANCHESTER UNITED earned £25m and lost a utility man when they sold Scott McTominay to Napoli in the summer.

But it appears they lost even more than that.

Scott McTominay came through the ranks at Old Trafford and developed into a Red Devils utility man[/caption]

McTominay has taken life in the south of Italy in his stride, even though he was NOT Antonio Conte’s first choice as a player, as we told you on Tuesday.

He’s fashioned a role as an advanced middle man for the Serie A title hopefuls after his versatile spell at Old Trafford.

The Scotland star played mostly as a defensive midfielder for his boyhood team, but also in defence, right-back and even as a makeshift striker.

And it’s goals that have become a MASSIVE part of his game in the past couple of years – much to Man Utd‘s frustration, and Scotland’s success.

In his last 23 caps he’s found the net 10 times for Steve Clarke‘s side.

And that form has translated to his league campaign at the Stadio Diego Maradona.

He’s found the net six times in Serie A this season – a modest haul – but his best league campaign to date.

And it’s still not finished yet.

Napoli’s gain is certainly the Red Devils‘ loss.

McTominay’s half dozen is more than the ENTIRE misfiring Man Utd midfield have managed from open play this season as they languish 15th in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes has hit five goals in the league – but three were penalties.

Their only other open play goal in the Premier League came from Casemiro.

McTominay has hit a magnificent seven in total – when you include the Italian Cup.

Likewise Christian Eriksen has two goals in the Europa League and another double in the Carabao Cup.

Kobi Mainoo has been on target too.

But it’s league form where Man Utd need all the help they can get and McTominay’s goals are proving a major miss for Ruben Amorim‘s men.

But as mentioned Man Utd’s miss is Napoli’s gain.

So much so, McSauce has been ranked above Italy’s most famous export by his Neopolitan fans.

The owner of San Ciro‘s pizzeria in Leith took to Instagram to unveil a flag in McTominay‘s honour.

The banner reads ‘Napoli, McTominay, Pizza, in that order’, with a Scotland flag in the background and a Napoli badge over the top.
