Hate Fortnite All You Want but Even Rockstar Is Reportedly Using Their Help to Make GTA 6 Better

According to recent rumors, Rockstar may be considering enabling user-generated content in GTA 6. It appears that Rockstar wants to try a similar approach with its upcoming open-world game, which could increase the popularity of Grand Theft Auto 6‘s online mode. User-generated content is highly popular in live service games like Fortnite and Roblox.

In 2023, Rockstar formally revealed Grand Theft Auto 6, which featured Vice City as the game’s setting and Jason and Lucia as its two main protagonists. With over 220 million viewers, the first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer was a huge success. Since then, though, fans have hardly seen any official information about the game.

GTA 6 is reportedly going to feature user-generated content

As per a recent Digiday report, Rockstar may be considering letting creators modify Grand Theft Auto 6 so they can add their own content to the game’s world. The reports, which quote three unnamed industry insiders, claim that players would have the ability to alter the game’s environments and assets, much like is currently possible in games like Roblox and Fortnite.

The reports are still ambiguous, though, and it appears that Rockstar has so far had “relatively open-ended” discussions with the creators. Furthermore, it’s unclear how producing content for GTA 6 could help creators in ways other than exposure.

Rockstar has long been interested in player-made content. In 2023, Rockstar acquired CFX.RE, a group of programmers who built roleplay servers for Red Dead Online and Grand Theft Auto Online. Since roleplaying is so well-liked in GTA 5, the developer probably sees it as a way to keep GTA 6‘s online mode popular.

Unfortunately, these rumors should be with a grain of salt for the time being, just like the majority of information about Grand Theft Auto 6 nowadays. Recently, Rockstar launched a GTA 6 Discord server, which will serve as a new channel for game news and may indicate that more official details about the game will be released soon.

Everything will be unveiled in the fall of 2025 when the game will be released on consoles, as PC players can’t help but wait for an official release window.

What is user-generated content in Fortnite and Roblox?

User-generated content (abbreviated as UGC) is basically custom-made specific in-game attributes like maps, characters, cosmetics, and many more. That is why both Roblox and Fortnite have separate tools for building in-game content like UGC Creator and Fortnite Creative respectively. App screenshots, gameplay videos, user reviews, and social media posts about an app are examples of UGC.

Users organically produce this information, which is shared on a variety of digital platforms and frequently represents real user experiences and viewpoints. A thriving community of creators is fostered by the UGC program, which enables users to design, produce, and market their own hats, gear, and other accessories within the game.

By allowing for individual expression, this Roblox program not only increases player engagement but also gives skilled designers a job within the game’s community. Not only that, but in both games, UGC plays a huge part in keeping the game more relevant and more interesting for longer periods.
