A MURDER plot thug was previously jailed for the racial abuse of two former Rangers players, it has emerged.
Declan McCuish was last week convicted of being part of an assassination attempt on a man which prosecutors said “sought to turn the streets of Glasgow into a warzone”.
McCuish along with crime gang boss David Nisbet – both aged 34 – will be sentenced next month.
McCuish is no stranger to the dock, having been in bother in the past.
The then 23-year-old made headlines in 2014 for posting racist comments online about ex-Rangers players Sone Aluko and El-Hadji Diouf.
He called Aluko a “black monkey b*****d”.
The jibe referring to Diouf stated: “Are you still playing you vile little f* monkey”.
Police received complaints about the messages on the former Twitter platform and McCuish’s home was raided.
He later pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to posting “abusive and threatening” comments as well as a number of drug charges.
The then Sheriff Andrew Cubie locked him up for 12 months.
He said McCuish was part of a “small and dwindling group” that wants to “cherish this kind of hatred”.
The High Court in Glasgow heard last week how McCuish was a trusted lieutenant to Nisbet, who had been angered by a man he claimed was “a grass”.
Plans were made to execute the target, who cannot be identified, but has known underworld links.
McCuish’s role was to organise a flat for a hitman to stay in in Lenzie, East Dunbartonshire.
But the plan was halted after a potential gun-for-hire pulled out at the last minute.
McCuish and Nisbet were each found guilty of conspiracy to murder and will be sentenced in Edinburgh next month.
