Frantz Pierrot joins Velez Mostar after Drogheda United exit

FRANTZ PIERROT has signed for Velez Mostar following his departure from Drogheda United.

The once-capped Haiti international had spent the past two seasons in Ireland having decided to try his luck in Europe despite being drafted by Houston Dash.

Frantz Pierrot won the FAI Cup with Drogheda United last year

After 20 goals in 34 First Division appearances for Athlone Town, Drogheda beat off competition from other sides to land him for 2024.

Pierrot, 25, scored 14 times in 39 outings for the Boynesiders, helping them to both win the FAI Cup and retain their Premier Division status thanks to a play-off victory over Bray Wanderers.

There was renewed interest in him from within the League of Ireland but he has opted to move to Bosnia, joining Velez on an 18-month contract.

Elsewhere, Ireland ace Troy Parrott has been picked as the best player in the Dutch top flight for December.

The Ireland international became the first AZ Alkmaar player in over a year to win the award after his consistently good performances during the month.

The club had endured a slump in form, taking just one point from six games, before winning their final game in November.

And they finished the year on a high by winning all four games in December, thanks in no small part to Parrott’s exploits.

He was only a substitute for their first victory of the month, against Heracles, but he started against Ajax Amsterdam and scored the opener in their 2-1 win over their illustrious opponents.

The ex-Spurs striker then got the equaliser as they came from behind to overcome NAC Breda and then got the only goal of the game as they saw off FC Twente.

That brought his league tally to 10 goals in just 17 games with AZ lying in fifth, 13 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven whom they face on Saturday.

It is the first of six matches in 19 days for the Dubliner. In the League, AZ will also face Utrecht and Sparta Rotterdam, they have a Dutch Cup last 16 clash against Ajax and, in the Europa League, they will pit their wits against Roma and Robbie Keane’s Ferencvaros.

Parrott, 22, was not the only AZ player recognised with 20-year-old defender Wouter Goes collecting the Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month Award.

AZ paid Tottenham €8million for Parrott last summer after he had impressed in Holland during a loan spell with Excelsior, despite being unable to save them from relegation.
