Dublin weather: Capital hit with heavy rain & strong gusts before sunshine finally set to make an appearance

WIND warnings are hitting parts of the country this weekend as heavy rain and strong gusts hit.

Dublin is set escape the worst of the bad weather – but it doesn’t mean the county is in the clear.

The capital started out this morning with outbreaks of rain and gusts, before clearing for some much-needed sunny spells in the afternoon.

The sunny spells come after it went 11 days with zero hours of sun, marking the longest-running sunless streak since records began.

Showers are set to follow in the afternoon, with most dying out by the evening.

Temperatures today will range from 12C to 14C.

Overnight, it will be mostly dry early on before rain begins to spread from the south, where wind warnings are in place tomorrow morning.

Dublin, so far, has escaped any weather warnings despite Wicklow being hit.

OVERNIGHT RAIN

There will be some heavy falls of rain after midnight with the possibility of spot flooding.

Met Eireann said: “A windy night with fresh to strong southerly winds. Lowest temperatures of 9C to 12C.”

Tomorrow will be another wet day with further heavy rain, however, some sunshine is set to emerge.

Met Eireann added: “A wet start on Friday with spells of heavy rain.

“Brighter weather with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers will extend from the west through the morning, with the last of the rain clearing from the east coast by lunchtime.

“Highest temperatures of 11C to 13C in fresh and gusty southwest winds.”

MIXED WEEKEND

The weekend is looking to be more of a mixed bag as sun takes over on Saturday, with only strong clouds to appear in the afternoon.

Weather bosses said: “Saturday looks set to be a bright day with lots of sunshine and just a few passing showers, these mainly affecting the west and northwest.

“Highest temperatures of 10C to 12C in moderate southwest winds.

“A dry start on Saturday night but cloud will thicken overnight and rain will push eastwards across the country soon after midnight.

“An increasingly windy night with strong to gale force southerly winds developing. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 8C, occurring early in the night.”

On Sunday, wet weather will make a comeback as heavy rain engulfs the country, but temperatures will begin to rise.

Met Eireann said: “Wet and windy on Sunday morning with spells of heavy rain.

“The rain will gradually clear eastwards during the afternoon with scattered showers following from the west. Highest temperatures of 11C to 14C in strong to gale force southwest winds.

“Clear spells and scattered showers on Sunday night, the showers most frequent in the west. Lowest temperatures of 4C to 7C in fresh southwest winds.”
