Dragon Ball DAIMA is gearing up for its grand finale, and episode 19 is a visual spectacle that perfectly sets the stage for an epic battle. The episode features the long-awaited and climactic first canon appearance of Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 transformation.

However, while the episode impresses with its animation and storytelling, even with the unique Toriyama brand jokes, there seems to be a point that sticks out.
Vegeta’s treatment is surprising, considering that the series highlighted both Gokua and Vegeta doing their own thing, it felt like Vegeta would play a vital part in the final fight.
Vegeta gets pushed aside for comic relief yet again
With the SSJ3 form of Vegeta finally unlocked, there was hope that Goku and Vegeta would fuse or at least team up for the final epic showdown. But the series leaves many fans disappointed with the blatant plot armor exclusion of Vegeta from the final fight.

As the final showdown got closer, it felt like the series wanted to push Goku forward into the core of the narrative, this meant that he would shine alone while leaving Vegeta in a comedic side role.

The way that Vegeta has been treated made it feel like he was meant for comic relief from the very beginning of Dragon Ball DAIMA.

This is something fans have seen many times before in the franchise, due to his grumpy and prideful behavior, the series seems to use his serious persona and make him the butt of most jokes.
The penultimate episode kicks off with Glorio’s wish to restore the main cast to their adult forms. Vegeta quickly dominates Gomah and defeats him, not once but multiple times. This was all the fame and spotlight Vegeta could get, unfortunately.
It cannot be doubted that Goku is the protagonist
As the Third Evil Eye keeps regenerating Gomah, Vegeta’s attacks seem like futile attempts, even with his Super Saiyan 3 transformation. Dr. Arinsu, reveals that hitting the back of Gomah’s head three times can stop the eye from helping him regenerate.

Bulma is seen making fun of Vegeta as she convinces him to accept help instead of being all brawn and trying to defeat a seemingly immortal opponent. She threatens him with no more baths together if he doesn’t stop using all his energy in attacking Gomah.

All of this was done to set up Goku’s big moment. With Vegeta, who gained a power-up as the yardstick, it seems that DAIMA wanted to highlight why Goku is the protagonist.
Goku focuses on breaking his limits and unlocking his transformation to the peak of SSJ3. which leads to the reveal of his new Super Saiyan 4 form. This makes the long-awaited SSJ3 form of Vegeta seem like nothing in comparison while setting up the stage for the final episode.
Dragon Ball DAIMA can be streamed on Hulu and Crunchyroll.
