Prime Video’s Reacher returns for its third season with an all-new story and new addition to the cast, and Alan Ritchson is very happy to work alongside newcomer Sonya Cassidy. With stakes higher this time, the actor confessed he’s afraid of failing to meet people’s expectations.
He spoke with ExtraTV and shared how he felt about the success of the show and what it’s like coming back to the character.
I’m always panicked, yeah, I’m always afraid that suddenly nobody’s going to want to watch ‘Reacher,’ so every day, we’re talking about how we can make the show better, and make it a better experience for audiences.
Ritchson added that they are always seeking ways to improve, and this calls for picking the right book to adapt and staying faithful to the source material. He wants the story to land with the audience and give justice to Lee Child’s books.
The 42-year-old actor stated that Season 3 is so far his favorite among the bunch, and he wishes people would continue supporting it and perhaps gain new fans. Interestingly, Ritchson said he had been in movie sequels that bombed at the box office so his fear might have stemmed from this experience.
So far, the critics’ reception towards the show looks very good as Rotten Tomatoes currently records a 97% approval rating as of this writing. The third installment has only just dropped a few days ago so this might change over the next few days.
As for what fans can expect, Ritchson revealed that they included a couple of backstories and an intriguing alliance that might test Reacher since he’s known to be a lone wolf who likes breaking the rules.

It’s shocking to think that despite fitting the mold of a superhero, Ritchson struggled to wrap his head around the fact that he is the definitive version of Reacher for many fans.
He said so in his interview with GogglerMY that he had a moment of reckoning where he felt he was not suitable to play the part: “I was like, I’m not right for this. I don’t feel like the studio feels like I’m right for this. I don’t feel like I’m big enough and ferocious enough and stoic enough…”
It was when he worked with a team to help build the character that he had the epiphany and finally figured out how to play the role.
