A nationwide freeze on council tax bills imposed two years ago by former First Minister Humza Yousaf was scrapped in December by Finance Secretary Shona Robison — paving the way for hikes across Scotland.

It means that locals across the city will see their bills soar.

Someone in Band A can expect their bill to rise from £999.33 up to £1074.28, which is a hike of £74.95.

Band C is set to increase by £99.93 from £1332.44 to £1432.37, and Band D will rise by £112.43 from £1499 to £1611.43.

The highest bands of G and H are set to see an increase of over £200 – with Band G rising by £220.17 and Band H up by £275.44.

Reform Councillor Thomas Kerr said: “Glaswegians are absolutely scunnered with having to pay more tax and have local services cut.

“I am worried that behind the smoke and mirrors of nationalist spin, this will be a Budget that will damage our city further with higher tax, cuts to services and anti-growth policies that will lose jobs for Glaswegians.”

Scottish Labour’s finance spokesperson on the council, Jill Brown, said: “Despite a record funding settlement of £5.2billion for the Scottish Government, they have continued to deprioritise local services.

“Instead of standing up for Glasgow, the SNP’s budget is choosing to pass the burden onto Glaswegians.”

Councils across the country will agree increases which are all expected to be above the inflation rate at three per cent.

East Lothian became the first local authority to announce a double-digit increase.

An increase of 10 per cent is expected in the Scottish Borders and Perth and Kinross.

North Lanarkshire is expected to increase by 10 per cent as well.

On top of inflation-busting council tax hikes, Scots will also be hit by huge water bill rises – added on to council tax bills.

Scottish Water has announced that prices will increase by 9.9 per cent starting this Spring.

This means the average monthly household bills for water and waste water services will shoot up by £3.68 per month or £44 per year.

However, some households could see it skyrocket to as high £108 more per year.

The increase will take effect from April 1, 2025, and will be collected alongside council tax.
