CHP Valley Division Air Operations Rescue

The crew of H-20 was requested to assist the rescue of a snowshoer who had fallen approximately 30 feet, while traversing a ridge on Castle Peak. The 70 year male fell onto his head, then slid several hundred feet on snow and ice before coming to a stop. Witnesses on scene provided aid to the man, as crews from CalStar, Valley Division Air Operations and Truckee Fire responded. H-20 inserted two Helicopter Rescue Technicians (HRT) from Truckee Fire who skied to the man’s location and prepared him for a hoist. The patient was hoisted from the steep mountain face and flown to a nearby LZ, where care was transferred to CalStar. The patient was flown to Reno Renown Medical Center as the HRT members self extricated.
