Rio Brazilian Steakhouse on Bridge Street, York, revealed it was shutting on Monday.

The steakhouse announced: “We regret to announce that Rio Brazilian Steakhouse York has now closed.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

With a lively interior boasting neon lights and multi-coloured seating, the chain offers Brazillain Churrasco – another term for barbeque.

The salad bar was made up of over 40 hot and cold items to pair with your sizzling meats which were carved at your table.

Specially trained Gaucho Chefs were ready to serve up a selection of cuts to 134 covers, but now the venue sits empty.

It was the seventh in the Rio Brazillian Steakhouse chain and created 46 new jobs in the former premises of Piccolino.

Another branch of the same chain in Newcastle won a Trip Advisor award and was named the best “Everyday Eats” restaurant in Britain by the Travel Bible.

The prestigious award is given out to joints that offer delicious food without the bill leaving a bitter taste in your mouth.

On Google Maps Rio Brazilian Steakhouse in York attracted a 4.7-star rating from 262 reviews.

Customers described it as “a great experience” with “the best meat available.”

Pictures show the stylish decor with fake plants hanging from the ceiling and an extensive range of liquor behind the bar.

Diners pile their plate with meats, cheese and veg under the atmospheric lighting while perusing the cocktail menu.

Unfortunately, the popular venue has now officially shut shop and customers have taken to Facebook to share their commiserations.

One wrote: “Gutted. It really was one of the best places to eat in York.

“It’s a pity more people didn’t discover it and keep it open. I will miss this place and the wonderful staff that were second to none.”

Another unhappy customer added: “Such a shame, loved the place and was hoping to go again soon.”

A third disappointed diner wrote: “Really sorry to hear this, came for the first time the other week and the food was all lovely.”

The restaurant hopefully hasn’t left too big of a hole in the hearts of their customers as the venue’s sister restaurant remains open.

Rio Brazilian Steakhouse concluded: “You can still enjoy our sister restaurant, Tomahawk Steakhouse York, just a short distance away at Lendal Cellars.”
