THE HISTORY OF ALDI
The German discount supermarket chain came to Ireland in 1999.
Aldi’s first few shops opened in November 1999, with locations in Sandyford, Dublin, and Ballincollig, Cork.
By the mid-2000s, Aldi bosses had opened numerous stores, focusing on providing high-quality products at low prices.
As the recession hit 2008-2012, Aldi’s popularity grew as consumers became more price-conscious.
The supermarket giant continued it’s expansion in Ireland between 2013-2018, while refurbishing existing stores.
By 2018, Aldi had over 130 shops throughout the country.
The chain began to focus on expanding its range of Irish-made products and supporting local producers.
In 2023, Aldi had over 140 stores in Ireland.
The store invested in sustainability initiatives, such as reducing plastic packaging and increasing the availability of organic and eco-friendly products.
Aldi chiefs said: “At Aldi we are committed to supporting Irish suppliers. Developed in partnership with Bord Bia, Grow with Aldi is designed to help the very best Irish suppliers develop their brand.
“To date, we’ve invested €10 million in our Grow with Aldi development programme in a bid to find the very best Irish suppliers.
“As a result, for a limited time only there are over 47 new products, from 27 Irish suppliers available in store.”
Aldi have introduced technological advancements with self-checkout systems and contactless payment options.

Cena chooses Celtic
BY JONATHAN MOAR
CELTIC could have a new celebrity fan in the form of WWE legend John Cena.
He’s revealed why he’s put the Hoops to the ‘front of the list’ as he bids to decide which UK-based football team to support.
Cena is one of the WWE’s biggest stars of all time but he’s revealed he’ll be retiring from wrestling next year.
The 16-time world champion appears less in WWE these days after his Hollywood career exploded into life across the last decade.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the wrestling legend explained: “I always say I am looking for a team. Everybody says I’m a Tottenham fan, there has been talks of me being a Chelsea fan.
“I say I’m looking for a team. I am still trying to figure out the game, the rivalries, so if you have a good pitch I am willing to listen.”
Cena was being interviewed by talkSPORT presenter Shebahn Aherne, who happens to be a huge Celtic fan.
And the Glasgow-born presenter didn’t miss her chance to make that pitch for Cena to support Celtic.
She said: “Glasgow Celtic, the best fan base in the world. You can walk down the street and you will find yourself a Celtic bar, John Cena. Is that a pitch that works?”
Impressed, Cena revealed he’d be putting Celtic ‘at the front of the list.’
5 days agoworld NewsComments Off on Harrowing accounts of Hamas terrorists raping hostages at gunpoint & whipping genitals revealed as war reaches 500th day
AS Israeli missiles blitzed Gaza day after day, it wasn’t the risk of being killed that terrified hostages.
It was the fear of being raped by depraved Hamas thugs.

Women, children and men were brutalised by Hamas terrorists from the moment they swept across the border amid the October 7 atrocity and unleashed total hell on Israel.
Vile terrorists captured 251 hostages, many of who were subjected to unspeakably warped treatment – including sexual violence.
Harrowing evidence of sexual abuse has been collected – painting a damning picture of the callous actions of Hamas brutes both on October 7 and in the 16 months since.
Brave victims such as Amit Soussna have spoken out about their ordeal since their release.
And witness accounts reveal the true horrors of Hamas’ campaign of intimidation – including of two teenagers who were forced to perform sexual acts on each other and abused by their captor.
With the final hostages now being released amid a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, more and more shocking testimonies are coming to light.
At least 70 hostages still remain captive in Gaza 500 days on from October 7 amid fears for their health.
But Israeli professor Yifat Bitton told The Sun that with dozens of victims killed and held in solitude, and crucial evidence destroyed, the real extent of Hamas’ crimes may never be revealed.
Evidence of sexual violence on October 7
The eyes of the world turned to the Middle East on October 7, 2023, as callous Hamas terrorists launched a horrifying raid on Israel.
Unforgiving thugs tore through kibbutzes, military bases and a festival – killing more than 1,200 people.
The attack caught Israel off guard as gun-toting Hamas killers wreaked havoc across the border.
Brutal gunmen not only killed their victims, but also subjected many of them to monstrous sexual violence.
In some haunting cases, women were raped, mutilated and murdered.
Footage shot the day after October 7 by a woman searching for her missing friend at the scene of the Nova festival, where hundreds were massacred, provides one of the most key pieces of evidence of sexual violence by Hamas.
The traumatic, grainy clip, showed a woman laying on her back with her dress torn, legs apart and her vagina exposed.
Her right hand covered her eyes, and her face burnt beyond recognition.
Known initially as “the woman in the black dress”, her identity was later revealed as mum-of-two Gal Abdush.
Panicked Gal had become trapped on Route 232 as she and thousands of others frantically tried to flee the festival.
A tragic final WhatsApp message to her family read: “You don’t understand.”
Israeli police officials believe she was raped before she was killed.
Supernova massacre survivor Yuval Sharvit Trabelsi meanwhile told how she witnessed rape while trying to escape.
In a video broadcast at an October 7 memorial at Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park, she said: “We saw murder, kidnappings, but the hardest of them all was rape.
“I have never heard screams for help like the ones I heard from that woman.”
She went on to recount how she smeared herself with her husband’s blood so that the terrorists would think she was dead.

Professor Bitton, who compiled a compelling report on how Hamas weaponised sexual violence on October 7, said much of the evidence of rape was missed initially as areas attacked were treated as war zones, rather than crime scenes.
First responders prioritised saving lives and taking the bodies of the hundreds and hundreds of victims for identification.
But in the aftermath of the bloodbath, Professor Bitton said there were clear indicators of widespread sexual violence – with underwear and condoms found.
She said: “There was a first responder, who is a very high commander in the police, in the field and she said that while she was rushing to save lives she saw scattered underwear.
“And when I asked her ‘what did you think of it, did you report it to anyone’ she said ‘I couldn’t think of anything other than just saving lives’.
“And then in the Shura camp, where the bodies were brought to in their hundreds, there was a physician who said she saw some of the bodies arrive without underwear.
“But again, identification was the main priority”.
Israeli police have admitted that they were not focussed on collecting samples from bodies, examining crime scenes or requesting autopsies, but instead fixated on Id’ing those killed – and fending off Hamas.
Hamas has repeatedly tried to deny accounts of sexual violence.
But sickening footage revealed a father and son from the terrorist group brazenly admitting to raping and murdering innocent women.
Evil Jamal Hussein Ahmad Radi, 47, and his twisted 18-year-old son Abdallah toldIsraeli investigators of their despicable crimes after being captured by IDF forces in Gaza.
Radi told how he unleashed terror in the Nir Oz kibbutz and attacked helpless families.

IDFEvil Hamas father Jamal Hussein Ahmad Radi admitted to raping a woman as she screamed[/caption]
He admitted: “In each house where we found someone, we either killed them or kidnapped them.
“In the first house I found a woman and her husband, and we hit them with fire and killed them – they were in their late 40s.”
Warped Radi also confessed to raping women.
Speaking about one incident, he said: “She was screaming, she was crying, I did what I did, I raped her.
“I threatened her with my gun to take her clothes off, I remember she was wearing jean shorts, that’s about it.”
Hostages raped & sexually abused by captors
Terrified hostages were subjected to beatings, verbal abuse and in some cases sexual violence from the moment they were captured.
Having just witnessed the callous slayings of their families and friends in Israel, as well as the destruction of their homes, they endured Hamas’ tortuous actions.
Not even children were not exempt from Hamas’ sick abuse.
Victims have told how they were forced to undress at gunpoint and were subject to branding, food and water deprivation, hair-pulling, and isolation.
Survivor Amit Soussana courageously gave a detailed account of her 55-day ordeal that saw her chained, tortured and sexually assaulted.
Haunting footage showed brave lawyer Amit being hauled away by Hamas brutes as she desperately tried to escape.
She was overpowered by a group of men, who forced her to Gaza – where she was taken to a house and guarded by two men.
Amit said tied up by an iron chain to bars on a window for three weeks and sexually abused “under the threat of a gun” by one of her captors after taking a shower.

GettyMia Schem is reunited with her family following 55 days in Hamas captivity on November 30, 2023[/caption]
She told The Times last year: “I got up, took the small towel and covered myself.
“He came over with the gun to my head, trying to tear the towel away, but I wouldn’t let him.
“He punched me and I still wouldn’t let him.”
Amit then described how the guard, Mohammad, took her into a children’s room in the house where he forced her to perform a sexual act.
Her captors then continued to humiliate her for days on end, forcing Amit to get dressed fast and also clean for their amusement.
Mia Schem has also recalled the horrors she faced during her 54 days in captivity – describing her ordeal “the holocaust”.
The Israeli-French tattoo artist was dragged back to Gaza after being snatched by Hamas from the Supernova music festival.
In a harrowing testimony, Mia said she was operated with no anaesthetic or painkillers for a gunshot wound on her arm.
Mia was released in November 2023 during a brief ceasefire between Hamas and Israel – and is still coming to terms with the abuse she suffered.
We saw murder, kidnappings, but the hardest of them all was rape. I have never heard screams for help like the ones I heard from that woman.
October 7 survivor
Professor Bitton – who founded Tmura, which advocates for the rights of women who have suffered abuse – said: “Some of the testimonies that we have are the type that it takes time to understand and realise what they mean.
“When Mia Schem got back, with time she started providing more and more information about incidents that she had.
“One of them was, for example, that when she was abducted and put in a car, the terrorist next to her rubbed her chest while she was being taken hostage.”
During her time in captivity, Mia was forced to live with her evil captor and his wife, who she described as “a bad woman” with “such mean eyes”.
Professor Bitton added: “She was very specific about an incident when she was trying to insert a tampon, and they – a man and woman – were with her.
“She fainted because it was so painful [trying to insert it] with her wounded hand.
“She was then mentally tortured by the man who told her that he had seen her naked because she fainted without her panties on.”
Mia previously said her captor “looked at you 2/4, raping you with his eyes”.
“His wife was outside the room with the children. That was the only reason he didn’t rape me,” she added.
A disturbing report by Israel’s health ministry also revealed how teenagers and children also suffered Hamas’ torture.
Two children were bound together by their hands and feet and forced to perform sex acts on each other.
They were also cruelly sexually abused by their captors – including having their genitals whipped.
The report, which was prepared for the United Nations, added: “Additionally, two young children had burn marks on their lower limbs.
“One child stated that the burns were the result of a deliberate branding with a heated object.
“Both the child and adults who were with him in captivity described the incident as a purposeful branding event, not an accident.
“It was described as an extremely traumatic experience.”
How the October 7 massacre unfolded
THE horror October 7 massacre in 2023 was the catalyst that plunged the Middle East into war.
That day, more than 1,200 civilians, soldiers and foreign nationals inside Israel were savagely murdered in a hideous early-morning assault.
Hamas terrorists stormed into Israel from Gaza, firing thousands of rockets, flying over in paragliders and bulldozing through in trucks in over 100 different places across the border.
Countless homes were razed to the ground – and 251 hostages were dragged back across the border to Gaza.
An IDF report found that 6,000 fighters from Gaza managed to get into Israel that day – including 3,800 from the Hamas terror group’s elite Nukhba forces.
Horrifying reports that followed October 7 revealed children were killed, women were raped and around 250 had been kidnapped and taken back to Gaza.
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu declared “we are at war” following the ambush – and said the military would “turn Gaza into a deserted island” and urged its residents to “leave now”.
Men were also subjected to callous acts – including being shot in their genitals.
Both female and male survivors have struggled to come forward have been reluctant to come forward, believing their traumatic experience pales against those murdered, Professor Bitton said.
And countless Israeli women are too scared to return to their homes close to the border amid fear of being attacked in the wake of October 7.
Professor Bitton said: “My initial thought was that for victims of this type of sexual abuse by terrorists, the enemy, they would be more motivated to come forward.
“And with time it’s becoming so much clearer that the opposite is true for a few reasons.
“First of all, we have the layers of trauma that are the more traumatic the incident was, the less likely it is for the victim to speak up.
“We know that this is a psychological relation or correlation between the two and people who were kept hostage.
“So you have the trauma first of all of them being part of the terrorist attack. Many endured other losses, they saw their friends being murdered in front of their eyes.
“And then they’re being beaten, starved, treated as animals being locked in a cage and being sexually assaulted.
“So the layers of trauma that you endure are very much hampering your ability to speak up about what you’ve gone through.
“We’ve had some hostages saying that they don’t feel they have the right to complain about being sexually abused when people are being murdered.
“And given the denialism and silencing and so on, we’ve got a second layer of bad experience that we’ve had with this in this respect of denialism.”
Professor Bitton said the full extend of Hamas’ vile campaign of sexual violence will never be known – but that it is important this atrocity is never forgotten.
“We know that it happened,” she said.
“But we can’t really tell the extent, because there’s an obliteration of evidence or most of the victims are killed.
“Even the accounts that we have, testimonies that we have. We have three accounts of hearing a woman being raped, in these cases they’re talking about a woman being eventually killed.
“I think in many respects the fact that some of the female hostages were held in complete isolation from others is a type of indication.
“It’s like raising the risk of her being sexually attacked to the maximum.”
The terrorist group has repeatedly denied that its members committed acts of sexual abuse towards prisoners or victims during the October 7 attacks.
But a United Nations report released stated there is “clear and convincing information” that some hostages had suffered sexual violence.

It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.
And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.
Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.
That is why The Sun launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.
The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Thanks to diet and exercise, Chloe White has not only transformed her appearance, but her confidence tootiktok@chloe.w.hite/
As a result, the star, who has 76,700 followers on social media, was able to drop four and a half stone – and now, people have said she looks like ‘a different person’.
Chloe has shared numerous clips online proudly showing off her jaw-dropping glow up, leaving people totally stunned.
In one short before and after clip, which has now gone viral, the content creator wrote: “He left me to ‘work on himself’.
“So I did the same.”
She captioned the video ‘boy bye’ and explained that after she started looking after herself, she was able to lose weight and totally transform her appearance.
Chloe acknowledged that after losing her “face fat” and slimming down, she is now “a whole new person”.
And whilst many were left convinced that Chloe had had surgery to slim down, Chloe swore that her transformation was simply down to moving more and making smarter food decisions.
Whilst one woman accused her of having a gastric sleeve, Chloe claimed that she was able to glow-up by volume eating, which involves eating large portions of low-calorie, high-volume foods, as well as high protein meals.
As well as this, she also credited weight training to her impressive weight loss and highlighted that she took inspiration and motivation by taking progress pictures, rather than through weighing herself.
And whilst Chloe loves working up a sweat in the gym, she also advised that for those looking to keep on top of losing weight, changing up the scenery and getting outside often helps – whether that’s going for runs or bike rides.
Chloe’s TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @chloe.w.hite, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly gone viral and racked up a whopping 5.8 million views.
Social media users were gobsmacked by her new look and many eagerly flocked to the comments to express this.
How to lose weight without surgery
There are various other ways to lose weight without going under the knife.
According to the NHS, to get the best possible start on its weight loss plan, there are the seven steps you should follow.
Get active for 150 minutes a week – you can break this up into shorter sessions
Aim to get your 5 A Day – 80g of fresh, canned or frozen fruit or vegetables count as 1 portion
Aim to lose 1 to 2lbs, or 0.5 to 1kg, a week
Read food labels – products with more green colour coding than amber and red are often a healthier option
Swap sugary drinks for water – if you do not like the taste, add slices of lemon or lime for flavour
Cut down on food that’s high in sugar and fat – start by swapping sugary cereal for wholegrain alternatives
Share your weight loss plan with someone you trust – they can help motivate you when you have a bad day

The NHS 12-step plan to help you lose weight
FROM faddy diets to dodgy detoxes - most of us have heard it all before when it comes to weight loss.
But burning fat can be easy and mostly free.
In fact, the NHS has a whole load of medically-approved tips for weight loss and shedding body fat once and for all…
Don’t skip breakfast Skipping breakfast will not help you lose weight. You could miss out on essential nutrients and you may end up snacking more throughout the day because you feel hungry.
Eat regular meals Eating at regular times during the day helps burn calories at a faster rate. It also reduces the temptation to snack on foods high in fat and sugar.
Eat plenty of fruit and veg Fruit and veg are low in calories and fat, and high in fibre – 3 essential ingredients for successful weight loss. They also contain plenty of vitamins and minerals.
Get more active Being active is key to losing weight and keeping it off. As well as providing lots of health benefits, exercise can help burn off the excess calories you cannot lose through diet alone.
Drink lots of water People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger. You can end up consuming extra calories when a glass of water is really what you need.
Eat high fibre foods Foods containing lots of fibre can help keep you feeling full, which is perfect for losing weight. Fibre is only found in food from plants, such as fruit and veg, oats, wholegrain bread, brown rice and pasta, and beans, peas and lentils.
Read food labels Knowing how to read food labels can help you choose healthier options. Use the calorie information to work out how a particular food fits into your daily calorie allowance on the weight loss plan.
Use a smaller plate Using smaller plates can help you eat smaller portions. By using smaller plates and bowls, you may be able to gradually get used to eating smaller portions without going hungry. It takes about 20 minutes for the stomach to tell the brain it’s full, so eat slowly and stop eating before you feel full.
Don’t ban foods Do not ban any foods from your weight loss plan, especially the ones you like. Banning foods will only make you crave them more. There’s no reason you cannot enjoy the occasional treat as long as you stay within your daily calorie allowance.
Don’t stock junk food To avoid temptation, do not stock junk food – such as chocolate, biscuits, crisps and sweet fizzy drinks – at home. Instead, opt for healthy snacks, such as fruit, unsalted rice cakes, oat cakes, unsalted or unsweetened popcorn, and fruit juice.
Cut down on alcohol A standard glass of wine can contain as many calories as a piece of chocolate. Over time, drinking too much can easily contribute to weight gain.
Plan your meals Try to plan your breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the week, making sure you stick to your calorie allowance. You may find it helpful to make a weekly shopping list.

“Genuine uses of technology in daily life but things that I have never seen shown before in film or television.”

“The plot, the style, the writing, the characters, the overall atmosphere, the twists and the intrigue is just top-notch.
“Finally a show with proper writing with proper dialogue, no politics or forced social policies for the sake of pleasing mainstream media, investment sources and rating agencies, just brilliant storytelling” added another.

5 days agoworld NewsComments Off on Mum slammed as ‘embarrassing’ & ‘deluded’ after claiming her husband cheating was a ‘beautiful gift’ for their marriage
A MUM has been torn apart online for defending her husband’s decision to cheat on their marriage.
Joy Harrington called the infidelity a “beautiful gift” and claimed it allowed her to “heal things” she “probably wouldn’t have otherwise.”
Joy says her relationship is stronger than ever thanks to her husband’s infidelityTikTok / @joyharrington.igShe claims his betrayal gave her a chance to let go of old woundsTikTok / @joyharrington.ig
Posting the admission to her 279,000 Instagram followers from her account @joyharrington.ig, she uploaded a sweet video of the pair embracing and kissing.
But trolls were left unimpressed and branded her “embarrassing” for forgiving him and called her message “incredibly harmful.”
In her caption, Joy she admitted her opinion was “not true of every cheater or every cheating incident.”
She said there are “always exceptions” and that her experience comes with a “big caveat”.
But she insisted that the phrase “once a cheater, always a cheater” is “false” and said after her husband’s betrayal, their relationship came back “even stronger.”
Joy said cheating isn’t always attributed to attraction to other people, the quality of a couple’s sex life or even the relationship itself.
Instead, she says it’s “more about an unhealthy coping mechanism” or “trauma response.”
She claims it doesn’t mean your relationship has to end if one of you is disloyal, you just need to understand the root cause of the issue.
And the wronged wife says she is actually thankful that her husband strayed from their marriage, as it gave her the chance to examine “unhealthy patterns” that stem from “c****y wounds” and “beliefs that you don’t need to keep carrying.”
She said her experience led her to discover “resentment that was there since childhood” and finally find the freedom to let go of her “wounds.”
Having made the decision to forgive her partner, Joy claims their relationship is perfectly healthy again.
Her loved-up video showed clips of the couple kissing, hugging and dancing together in what looks like the happiest of relationships.
But viewers in the comments were far from convinced.
One user said: “I truly feel sorry for anyone who takes advice from you.”
While someone else joined in: “This is embarrassing, know your worth.”
Check his phone. You won’t be surprised.

Another person blamed Joy for spreading misinformation: “Saying the trauma of betrayal is a “gift” is incredibly harmful to anyone who has been cheated on, this is egregious.”
While someone else was left feeling queasy from her post: “I’m sick to my stomach just reading this.”
Baby, please snap out of this delusion

And another person chimed in: “I get you’re trying to make the best out of being dealt a bad hand, but this is textbook gaslighting.
“Cheating is the most unloving, disrespectful, and cruel thing we could do to someone we pretend to love. And I mean pretend. People do not cheat on people they love.”
Four red flags your partner is cheating
Private Investigator Aaron Bond from BondRees revealed four warning signs your partner might be cheating.
They start to take their phone everywhere with them
In close relationships, it’s normal to know each other’s passwords and use each other’s phones, if their phone habits change then they may be hiding something.
Aaron says: “If your partner starts changing their passwords, starts taking their phone everywhere with them, even around the house or they become defensive when you ask to use their phone it could be a sign of them not being faithful.”
“You should also look at how they place their phone down when not in use. If they face the phone with the screen facing down, then they could be hiding something.”
They start telling you less about their day
When partners cheat they can start to avoid you, this could be down to them feeling guilty or because it makes it easier for them to lie to you.
“If you feel like your partner has suddenly begun to avoid you and they don’t want to do things with you any more or they stop telling you about their day then this is another red flag.”
“Partners often avoid their spouses or tell them less about their day because cheating can be tough, remembering all of your lies is impossible and it’s an easy way to get caught out,” says Aaron.
Their libido changes
Your partner’s libido can change for a range of reasons so it may not be a sure sign of cheating but it can be a red flag according to Aaron.
Aaron says: “Cheaters often have less sex at home because they are cheating, but on occasions, they may also have more sex at home, this is because they feel guilty and use this increase in sex to hide their cheating. You may also find that your partner will start to introduce new things into your sex life that weren’t there before.”
They become negative towards you
Cheaters know that cheating is wrong and to them, it will feel good, this can cause tension and anxiety within themselves which they will need to justify.
“To get rid of the tension they feel inside they will try to convince themselves that you are the problem and they will become critical of you out of nowhere. Maybe you haven’t walked the dog that day, put the dishes away or read a book to your children before bedtime. A small problem like this can now feel like a big deal and if you experience this your partner could be cheating,” warns Aaron.

HOUSING measures for birds and poultry have been introduced in Northern Ireland in a bid to stop the spread of bird flu.
The order, implemented by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), requires owners of pet birds, commercial flocks, backyard flocks, and hobby flocks to keep their birds indoors or otherwise separate from wild birds from Monday.

The decision to introduce the restrictions was made before it was announced at the weekend that 64,000 birds were culled in Co Tyrone following a suspected case of avian flu.
Similar measures are also being implemented by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) in Ireland.
Agriculture Minister Andrew Muir said: “This will help ensure industry across both jurisdictions are protected as much as possible as we move through the remainder of this HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza) season.
“This decision will mean that all poultry and captive bird keepers must keep their birds housed or otherwise separate from wild birds.
“This strengthens actions taken by my department to ensure mandatory biosecurity measures were implemented, since 18 January 2025.”
Disease control measures were initiated by the department following suspicion of a case of avian flu at a commercial poultry premises near Dungannon on Friday.
Mr Muir said: “A suspect case of notifiable Avian Influenza was reported on Friday 14 February and initial results suggested the presence of notifiable HPAI.
“Following further investigation, the CVO (Chief Veterinary Officer) has taken the decision, as a precautionary measure, to apply appropriate disease control measures, including the humane culling of all poultry on site (64,000) and the introduction of Temporary Control Zones (TCZ) to mitigate for onward disease spread.
“This suspected incursion of HPAI, following the recently confirmed case at a captive bird premises near Magherafelt further shows we cannot afford to be complacent.
“It is crucial that all bird owners – from backyard hobbyists to commercial flock keepers with thousands of birds – adhere to all biosecurity measures to protect their flocks and report any suspect cases to the Department as soon as possible.”
An Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) has applied across Northern Ireland since January 18.
The AIPZ places a legal requirement on all bird keepers to follow strict biosecurity measures.
Following the suspected case in Co Tyrone, CVO Brian Dooher said: “The disease control measures have been taken to limit any potential spread of disease and I appeal to all bird owners – backyard and commercial – to take all necessary steps to protect your flock.
“This includes ensuring continuous excellent levels of biosecurity and adhering to all the requirements mandated under the AIPZ.
“Samples from the infected premises have been sent to the National Reference Laboratory to confirm strain and pathogenicity.
“Should HPAI be officially confirmed, these TCZs will be revoked and replaced with a three kilometre Protection Zone (PZ) and 10 kilometre Surveillance Zone (SZ).”
