Fury as CBeebies site calls drag queens ‘inspirational mums’

CBEEBIES has sparked outrage for hailing trans sex workers as “inspirational mums” alongside Holly Willoughby and Michelle Obama.

The BBC’s children’s TV channel has a list on its website celebrating mothers in honour of International Women’s Day.

Among them they cite American drag queens Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera who they say were “drag mothers”.

They established a shelter for homeless youths in 1970 and paid the rent by sex work, according to reports.

CBeebies website says: “Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, transgender drag queens and ‘drag mothers’ to the STAR House, provided a home, food, clothing and a sense of family to many LGBTQ+ kids made homeless by their biological families.”

The website added that the pair “mothered” the STAR House in New York.

Shadow women’s minister Mims Davies said: “We all know and appreciate families these days can come in all shapes and forms and that is to be roundly celebrated too.

“However, this list seems to be deliberately provocative and instead of a celebration looks like a distraction from actually celebrating women.

“Women should be front and centre on International Women’s Day. There are rightly other days and times to focus on other achievements and groups and our national broadcaster should be capable of doing that.”

Lucy Marsh from the Family Education Trust said: “This is not only completely inappropriate for children but hugely insulting to women to celebrate these men as ‘mothers’.”

She said TV licence payers do not want to fund this “nonsense”.

The piece sparked a backlash with parents on internet forum Mumsnet this week.

One wrote: “Not inspirational. Not mums.”

Another added: “The whole thing seems totally inappropriately pitched for CBeebies.”

Another parent said: “CBeebies is for little children. Why do they need this nonsense? Just let kids be kids.”

One wrote: “This is awful. Who put this together? The BBC is becoming a parody of itself – why are drag queens in absolutely everything?”

A BBC spokesperson said: “This archived page was published five years ago in the ‘grown-up’ section of the CBeebies website to celebrate International Women’s Day.”

The British boxer who is also a part-time electrician, is now taking a huge leap in what is by far the most important fight of his boxing career.

The 29-year-old is coming into this fight as a huge underdog and if he was to win on Saturday night, would be one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

Maurizio Sarri reveals he ‘exchanged notes’ with former Chelsea star as he hints at return to management

MAURIZIO SARRI could be set for a return to management as he revealed family issues have kept him away from the dugout.

The Italian revealed that he recently exchanged notes with his former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas.

Cesc Fabregas now manages Como in the Serie A[/caption]

Sarri has been out of the dugout since resigning from Lazio halfway through the season in March 2024.

He joined Lazio in 2021 and led them to second place in Serie A in the 2023-24 season.

That was the club’s best league finish since they won the title in 1999-2000.

But the 66-year-old has revealed that his personal life has stopped him from returning despite being approached by several suitors.

He told Corriere della Sera: “It hasn’t been a good period due to some family issues.

“I’ve received many offers in this period, from different continents, even from Arabia.

“But nothing has yet made me make that internal click.”

He added: “I would like a big project, that will rekindle the spark in me. Otherwise I will remain still.

“Me close to Milan in January? I will not answer. I will say that I have received proposals that have not made me waver at the moment.”

Sarri also revealed that before he joined Napoli in 2015 he had a positive conversation with AC Milan chiefs but didn’t hear from them again.

The former Prem boss admitted there’s one thing he doesn’t miss about football.

He said: “I miss the adrenaline of football. I like everything about this sport – except the transfer market.

“I have watched and studied many games in this period. Fabregas’ Como intrigue me.

“He was a player of mine at Chelsea and we recently exchanged notes.”

Sarri spent just one season at Chelsea after replacing Antonio Conte in 2018.

But he left Stamford Bridge after just a sole season, winning the Europa League with Fabregas in 2019.

Frank Lampard would replace Sarri, who went on to join Juventus.

With Juve, he won the league title but again his reign lasted no more than a full season after he was sacked in October 2020.

Chelsea ace Cole Palmer beams on night out as he meets his music icon and celebrates singer’s release from prison

COLE Palmer met his favourite artist to celebrate his freedom from jail after judges decided he should not face a retrial for murder.

The England and Chelsea ace has previously shared footage on social media of himself singing along to tracks by his idol – Jamaican musician Vybz Kartel.

Rapper Vybz Kartel (left) and footy star Cole Palmer (right) met up to celebrate the musician’s release from prison[/caption]

The duo finally met for a night out in London on Thursday when Cole – proud of his own Caribbean roots – met his hero.

He wrote online: “Respect! The link up finally happened.”

Also at the star-studded gathering – a celebration of Vybz’s release from prison last summer – at the Sachi Japanese restaurant in Belgravia were hip hop duo Krept and Konan.

Musician Vybz, real name Adidja Palmer, was jailed in 2014 but his conviction was overturned by UK judges last year.

He had been accused of killing Clive “Lizard” Williams in Jamaica – but always maintained his innocence.

Vybz’s trial in 2014 heard that victim Clive Williams and another man, Lamar Chow, were given two unlicensed firearms belonging to Kartel for safekeeping.

When they failed to return them at an agreed time, prosecutors said they were summoned to Kartel’s house in August 2011.

Chow told the trial they were attacked and the last thing he saw was Clive Williams – who was never seen alive again – lying motionless on the ground.

The house burned down days later and his body has never been found.

Vybz is known as one of Jamaica’s most popular artists and has collaborated with performers such as Jay-Z, Eminem and Rihanna.

His best-known hits include Clarks, Ramping Shop and Summer Time, and his success led to him launching lines of shoes, alcohol and condoms.

The singer also became the first dancehall artist to star in his own reality TV show, Teacha’s Pet.

Former Manchester City wonder Cole’s grandfather emigrated to the UK from the Caribbean island of St Kitts in the 1960s.

His dad previously revealed how popular his son is on the Caribbean island.

Cole pays tribute to his roots via his football boots.

He said in an interview: “…my dad’s family is from St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean.

“He hates going out in the cold. But he’d do it for me anyway.

“That’s why I got the St Kitts flag on my boots, as a little tribute to him and his family.”

Vybz’s son showed the family’s love for Cole by recording a video of his own last year – dubbed M.O.T.M (Man of the Match) – which featured tributes to the footie ace.

Cole, 22, was due to star for Chelsea in their crunch Prem clash against Aston Villa last night/tonight(Sat).

Inside the stunning family holiday resort just 90 minutes from Glasgow with soft play, golf and pool

WHAT’S not to love about a Scottish staycation?

Yes the weather may not play ball at times but as long as it’s not blowing a gale or teemin’ with rain it’s the perfect excuse to explore our beautiful wee country.

TRAVEL - Piperdam Away Resort, Dundee Scotland.. Lodge
There are lots of lodges to choose from on the 650-acre site
TRAVEL - Piperdam Away Resort, Dundee Scotland.. Lodge kitchen
Our kitchen was perfect for the family
TRAVEL - Piperdam Away Resort, Dundee Scotland.. Swimming Pool
There are loads of amenities to entertain everyone

No middle of the night alarm set for ungodly early flights to the continent. Just pack up the car and go!

In our household, summer holidays are spent in warmer climes but the mid-term break is a chance for my wife Bev and I to take kids Aaron and Lucia somewhere a little closer to home and strike another part of Scotland off the bucket list.

This year we headed for Piperdam Away Resorts in Dundee for a few days of country walks, relaxation and most importantly, quality family time.

Nestled in idyllic Angus countryside, Piperdam is a 650 acre leisure resort that offers lodge accommodation to suit all budgets and party size.

Their premier lodges, which can sleep up to 12 people, line the banks of the picturesque Loch Piperdam, perfect for wedding parties and other special occasions.

We stayed in one of their Osprey Spa Lounges which consists of two double bedrooms and one twin room all of which had en-suite bathrooms! It was more than enough room for my clan as these lodges comfortably sleep up to six people.

The open plan living room and kitchen area is incredibly bright and spacious with its high ceilings adding to the roomy feel of the lodge.

The accommodation benefits from a porch area, ideal for muddy boots and wet coats after taking in one of the many nearby country walks.

Speaking of walks, Piperdam has information on a variety of nature trails that you can download from their website. Very handy!

Like most of the lodges at Piperdam ours came with its own private hot-tub.

After a full day of hiking there’s nothing better than a long soak with a glass of fizz, even if the short walk to the tub is a little chilly! There’s plenty on offer for kids at the Activity Barn.

A baby and toddler area is the perfect place to keep your little ones amused whilst the bigger kids run themselves ragged at Little Pipers softplay. The schedule there is jam packed with activities such as mini Segways, archery and even axe throwing!

Piperdam has not one but two golf courses. Its 18-hole course has some absolutely breathtaking scenery with the front nine bending its way around the loch.

The Wee Piper golf course is an all par-3 nine hole course, ideal for beginners or keen golfers short on free time.

I’m firmly in the “waste of a good walk” camp when it comes to golf so the kids and we enjoyed a round of crazy golf instead.

And after sinking a few birdies it was time to down a few pints at Howie’s Bar and enjoy a family meal at the Room with a View restaurant. A varied, fuss-free and reasonably priced menu can be found here as well as a stunning vista of Piperdam Loch.

Despite there being plenty to keep everyone amused on-site, Dundee city centre is a short drive from the resort where we took in a whistlestop tour of attractions.

We managed to squeeze in a visit to the V&A museum, Verdant Works Museum and The McManus Art Gallery and still find time for some retail therapy at the Overgate Shopping Centre.

GO: ANGUS

Heading north from Piperdam we drove to Blairgowrie and Rattray where we enjoyed a long autumnal walk along the banks of the River Ericht, where we stumbled upon a narrow gorge in the river known as Cargill’s Leap.

Did the weather play ball?

Let’s just say that we crammed so much into our long weekend that the arrival of Storm Ashley may have dampened our footwear but not our appetite for another adventure on these shores next year.

Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol 2 undercard: Who is fighting on TONIGHT’S mammoth boxing bill

ARTUR BETERBIEV and Dmitry Bivol will headline what is billed one of the BEST cards in boxing history.

The pair will reignite their fight from October in a match being titled ‘The Last Crescendo.’

Last time the two met, Beterbiev earned a controversial decision win with scorecards of 115-113, 116-112 and 114-114.

Following the bout, promoter Eddie Hearn called the fight between Beterbiev and Bivol “one of the best fights in the sport”.

Nonetheless, Hearn, Bivol’s promoter, was in disagreement with the score citing there was “only one winner” and it was his guy.

Beterbiev and Bivol may be the card’s closing act on the night, but they may not even have the most eyes on them in Saudi Arabia.

Who is fighting on mammoth boxing bill?

Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker were set to go head-to-head for the Brit’s IBF heavyweight title.

However, Dubois withdrew at the the eleventh hour due to illness.

His replacement, Martin Bakole, was called up on two days’ notice from the Democratic Republic of the Congo for one of the most anticipated replacement fights in history.

Parker’s on a five-match winning run, while Bakole – who weighed in at 310LBS – previously defeated Carlos Takam in Saudi Arabia and Jared Anderson in Los Angeles during Riyadh Season bouts.

The fight is now an eliminator for a shot at Oleksandr Usyk’s WBO title.

Chinese boxing icon Zhilei Zhang, 41, will take on Agit Kabayel in an eliminator for the WBC heavyweight – also held by Usyk.

Joshua Buatsi and Callum Smith will also feature on the card in a light-heavyweight eliminator – the winner will be the mandatory contender for either Beterbiev or Bivol.

There is another interim belt on the line between Vergil Ortiz Jr and Israil Madrimovin the super-welterweight division.

The monster card also features TWO OTHER title fights – both including up and coming British fighters.

Josh Padley was the shock name to step in for Flloyd Schofield after, like Dubois, he also had to withdraw.

Padley has a tough task against pound-for-pound superstar Shakur Stevenson.

British prodigy Hamzah Sheeraz takes on Carlos Adames for the WBC middleweight title.

Sheeraz is one of Britain’s brightest young stars and a real favourite of Eddie Hearn.

The card starts with a couple of Saudi prospects – Ziyad Almaayouf and Mohammed Alakel – in action.

Beterbiev vs Bivol 2 Full Card

  • Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol – for the IBF, IBO, WBC and WBO light-heavyweight titles

Therefore, McIntyre, 39, had to fight through the pain before Friday’s scheduled bout on SmackDown.

But to do that the British bruiser first had to drain his knee, which was suffering from a recent knock.

The Scottish Warrior recorded the whole thing as WWE medics pulled out an enormous amount of fluid, which filled almost the entire syringe, and shared the footage on Instagram.

The procedure took place just 45 minutes before the three-time world champion’s match against Jimmy Uso.

McIntyre posted the following caption: “This is my knee being drained of fluid 45 minutes before my match. Wish me luck.”

The ex-WWE Champion went on to lose the fight to Uso, who beat him with a Roll-Up.

But the first and only British WWE world champion had the last laugh as he left Big Jim laying after a vicious post-match attack.

McIntyre knocked the eight-time tag team champion out with a devastating Claymore.

Nevertheless, this loss came at a bad time for the heavyweight athlete ahead of his scheduled big fight at Elimination Chamber on March 1 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

McIntyre will compete in the Men’s Elimination Chamber Match against John Cena, CM Punk, Logan Paul, Damian Priest and Seth Rollins.

The winner will challenge Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.
