Marcus Rashford ‘wanted by ambitious Como’ with former team-mates set to convince him to join them in Italy
MARCUS RASHFORD is reportedly wanted by Serie A side Como.
The Italian outfit have been ambitious in the transfer market since their promotion out of Serie B.
Marcus Rashford is reportedly wanted by Como[/caption] Raphaël Varane is an ambassador at the club[/caption]In the summer transfer window, Como signed the likes of Andrea Belotti and Nico Paz.
The club also added free agents such as Spanish stars Pepe Reina, Alberto Moreno and Sergi Roberto.
Reports in Italy have now claimed they have set their sights on Rashford.
The club could rival other interested parties such as AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.
Di Marzio have claimed that Como will have “no problem” with the deal for Rashford from an “economic point of view”.
Como will also be boosted with Rashford’s former team-mates Raphael Varane and Dele Alli at the club.
Varane is working as an ambassador after retiring from football during the season due to injury.
While Alli, who played with Rashford with England, is training with the Lombardi side.

It is suggested that the pair could try and convince the Red Devils star to pick Como this month.
Rashford’s brother and agent Dwaine was in Milan this week speaking to AC Milan over a potential deal.
Why Rashford joining Arsenal is perfect fit
MARCUS RASHFORD is at a crossroads.
But now the England star has to make the biggest choice he has ever faced – does he care about cash, or about his career?
Rashford’s shock admission that he is “ready for a new challenge” after some two decades under the Manchester United umbrella has altered the dynamic around his future.
That Rashford might not fit the blueprint of Ruben Amorim – who has now responded to Rashford’s comments – was not exactly a surprise.
The Portuguese coach prefers a 3-4-3 formation but appears to have settled on Rasmus Hojlund as his starting central striker and wants two “narrow” inside forwards, with the width coming from the wing-backs.
Rashford has always wanted to play through the middle but is often at his best exploiting spaces out wide – and that skillset does not necessarily suit the way Amorim wants to play.
Even so, going public with his evident dissatisfaction at being bombed entirely from the squad for the Manchester derby was a major move, even if he vowed there would be “no hard feelings” if he does leave his boyhood club.
In truth, Rashford has been leaving United almost from the moment he signed that new £325,000 per week contract in 2023.
Something was broken in his connection to the club. His form dropped, his threat dissipated, his issues with the hierarchy deepened.
When Erik ten Hag dropped him for hosting a birthday party after a derby defeat, and he later pulled a sickie to miss the FA Cup game with Newport, it felt even then that the writing was on the wall.
The facts suggest the love affair has ended. After scoring 30 in all competitions to earn that new deal, he has scored just 15 in the 18 months since it was signed.
Amorim’s arrival seems merely to have accelerated what was increasingly inevitable.
Now, though, it is up to Rashford to determine what his future will bring.
If it is only about the money, then his options might be somewhat limited.
It is hard to see a Prem rival coughing up the same £16.9m annual salary – although Rashford’s comments have probably knocked £20m-plus off any transfer fee.
But Real Madrid have their fill of big-money strikers and Barcelona’s budget remains restricted by LaLiga financial controls.
In Europe, then, that probably leaves PSG – but a move to a one-club league.
Or, in the wider world, he could follow the likes of Ivan Toney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Roberto Firmino and Co and head to the Saudi desert.
Lucrative, yep. Certainly a different environment – and that may be exactly what Rashford both wants and needs. But the football? Not in a million years.
What Rashford needs, above all, is to be able to play for trophies and showcase his talents.
There is no better stage than the Premier League – which has far more global eyeballs on it than any other domestic competition.
And in that Premier League there is one club crying out for a goalscoring No 9, especially if he can also play down the left channel to balance out the side and widen its threat.
Rashford has always been more Longsight than London.
Yet Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta, might be the perfect fit.
The Gunners’ lack of a proper scorer is one of the major factors many fans feel has hurt their title challenge this year.
Gabriel Jesus has never been a natural finisher, while Kai Havertz is still a converted midfielder.
And while the link-up between Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka makes their right flank deadly, faith in Gabriel Martinelli on the left is waning.
There have not been too many who succeeded at Arsenal after leaving United – although Danny Welbeck was not a flop.
Rashford has all the attributes to change that history, if he can reproduce what everybody knows is inside him.
And by breaking free, giving himself the chance to start all over, Rashford can make a point to Amorim that will resonate for a very long time.
However, the deal could hit two stumbling blocks as the Rossoneri need to sell Noah Okafor and need Man United to pay half of the forward’s wages.
Rashford is on a whopping £325,000-per-week which means the club would still need to pay £162,500 a week while he plays with AC Milan.
Como are currently sitting 16th in Italy’s top-flight but have only won four of their first 18 matches.
Cesc Fabregas’ side does have a game in hand over its rivals and winning that could lift the club to at least 12th.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be plotting a shock loan move.
German giants Borussia Dortmund are also keen on him and are willing to battle for his signature.

Inside Kate’s 43rd birthday – jewels from Wills, surprise from Pippa and a tradition loved by the late Queen
PRINCESS Kate is celebrating her 43rd birthday today and is set to receive homemade gifts from her kids following her brutal last year.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward also predicted a surprise trip may be on the cards for Princess Kate from husband Prince William, following her finishing her chemotherapy treatment.
Princess Kate is celebrating her 43rd birthday today[/caption] Royal expert Ingrid Seward said that Prince William is likely to buy Kate jewellery or take her on a special trip[/caption]Kate will mark her special day in Windsor with hubby Prince William, 42, and their children George, 11, Charlotte, nine, and six-year-old Louis.
Ingrid told Fabulous: “The Middleton family love birthdays; that’s how Carol Middleton really made her money, by making special things for special occasions in her online business.
“So birthdays are a huge thing, whereas in the royal family, birthdays are not a big thing at all.
“But I think, as William is very Middleton-influenced, I’m sure they will be having a big celebration.
“I’m certain there will be a big celebration later on today when the kids get back from school. They had their first day at school yesterday.
“They’ll be back from school tonight, and I’m sure they’re going to have a lot of fun with their mummy and give her some lovely little homemade presents.
“That’s what all mums love, to have something really pretty, a painting and drawing, or something that they’ve made, and you end up keeping it for the rest of your life.
“The Queen had some little pops and things that Prince Charles made when he was at school, 70 years ago. She kept them.”
Not only did Princess Kate have preventative cancer treatment in 2024, she also had planned abdominal surgery last January – and stepped back from royal duties with her recovery.
Royal author Claudia Joseph even dubbed last year as Kate’s “annus horribilis” – a term used by the late Queen.
Now Kate is looking forward to going back to work and has conducted a number of official engagements including Trooping the Colour, Wimbledon – where she was given a standing ovation – and the Remembrance Day commemorations.
Ingrid, who is Editor-in-Chief of Majesty Magazine, said Prince William may have a special surprise in store for Kate this birthday.
She added: “I rather hope that William might take Kate away somewhere as soon as they’ve got the time to go, because I’m sure the poor girl needs a bit of a break.
“And hopefully, she’s well enough to be able to go. So I think that might be a birthday treat for her.”
She also predicted Prince William will buy Kate something sparkly and added: “I would have thought a wonderful piece of jewellery to say, ‘I love you. You’re so brave. You’ve come through this,’ something to really commemorate the last year, which was so difficult, and look forward to having a better year this year.”
Meghan message
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could send Kate a birthday message[/caption]The royal expert also predicted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who now live in a £12million mansion in California with Archie, five, and Lilibet, three, could be in touch.
She continued: “I think Harry and Meghan will definitely be in touch, but they may not be in touch by telephone.
“They might just send an Instagram or a message.
“I’m sure they are very anxious to get back in the royal fold and gain some of their popularity.”
Meghan has just relaunched her Instagram page, ahead of her new Netflix cooking show, With Love, Meghan airing this month.
Pippa party
Kate could celebrate with a dinner party with sister Pippa[/caption]Meanwhile, Kate could have celebrations with her inner circle, including sister Pippa Middleton, who is mum to Arthur, five, Grace, three, and Rose, one.
Ingrid predicted: “I would think that it’s quite likely that Pippa, if she’s in this country, probably is because the kids are back at school, would be giving her a wonderful dinner party.
“Maybe even the King is going to give her a dinner party at some stage.
“He is so delighted with how Kate has coped this last year, and he’s obviously very close to her.
“So I’m sure he would like to have some sort of celebration for her when the time is right. It may not be exactly on her birthday, but I’m sure he’ll do something.”
Ingrid advised that Prince William and Princess Kate will buy each other gifts and not rely on staff members.
Kate stepped out with the royal family on Christmas Day in Sandringham[/caption]She explained: “I think in William and Kate’s instance, they will choose the presents themselves, but it’s not exactly easy for them to go out to shop.
“What happens is, the shop very often comes to them, and certain shops will bring things for William to look at.
“At least that’s how other members of the royal family have done it.
“Maybe William’s more modern, and he’ll just slip out, pull his cap down over his face, and hope that no one recognises him.
“But I don’t think that’s going to happen. I would imagine that certain bits and pieces will be sent around for his approval.”
‘Memorable’ birthday
Kate is expected to celebrate with her family[/caption]Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond spoke to OK! about Kate’s plans for her birthday.
“This birthday is going to be memorably in so many ways – it will mark the start of a new and hopefully happier year, and the end of one that has been brutal for the whole family,” she said.
“While some women might find the prospect of turning 43 a bit daunting, Catherine will, I am sure, be delighted that she is able to enjoy her birthday in comparatively good health, though of course she is still recovering.
“Every day must now be extra precious for the princess and every birthday a cause for grateful celebration.”
We last saw Kate on Christmas Day as she joined the royals for their annual church outing in Sandringham.
Prior to this, she hosted her annual Together at Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey in early December.

Comedian Russell Howard announces he’s QUIT television after 19 years – despite having hit BBC and Sky shows
RUSSELL Howard has announced he’s quitting television after 19 years on air despite having hit shows.
The comedian has revealed he’s sticking to his roots with live stand-up and turning his attention to podcasting.
The funnyman came to prominence for his appearances on the now-axed Mock of the Week[/caption]Russell, 44, made his final appearance on the small screen back in August during an appearance on Channel 4’s Big Fat Quiz of Telly.
Speaking about walking away from TV, Russell said: “I don’t do TV anymore, I just do stand-up and my podcast.”
The funnyman continued to tell the Have A Word podcast: “I had a pretty good run, I just prefer doing stand-up.
“I was all over the world and it was just fun.”
Russell said “there’s nothing else I’d rather do” than putting together an entire set and touring.
He added: “TV is fun but it’s not as fun. Writing a book I couldn’t do because I don’t want to sit and entertain myself but doing stand-up is what I love doing.
“It’s not entertainment for committee, it’s your dictatorship…
“The audience are like this brilliant jury that let you know through laughter whether it works or not.”
Russell fronted his Good News series for the BBC, which ran for 10 series between 2009 and 2015.
In 2017 he launched The Russell Howard Hour for Sky TV, which had six series and a Covid-themed spin-off filmed from his house.
Howard was also a series regular on the now-axed satirical panel show Mock of the Week with Dara Ó Briain.

Plymouth’s hunt to replace axed Wayne Rooney continues as former Premier League manager walks away from talks
PLYMOUTH ARGYLE’S search to replace Wayne Rooney continues after they were rejected by a former Premier League boss, according to reports.
The Manchester United and England legend was axed on New Year’s Eve with the club bottom of the Championship.
Wayne Rooney was axed by the club with them bottom of the table[/caption]Argyle remain in the hunt for a new manager and they approached ex-Huddersfield and Norwich boss David Wagner about the vacancy earlier this week.
But The Express report that he has walked away from talks as he is not interested in the job.
Wagner got Huddersfield promoted to the Premier League and then kept them in the top-flight for one season before leaving the Terriers six years ago.
After spells at Schalke and Young Boys, the German spent 18 months with Norwich.
But the 53-year-old was dismissed after they crashed out in the play-offs to Leeds back in May.
Until Argyle find a new manager, Kevin Nancekivell and Joe Edwards will remain in temporary charge.
Steven Schumacher is the favourite to take over at Home Park and complete a sensational return to the Pilgrims.
The 40-year-old was surprisingly axed by Stoke back in September after quitting Argyle to move to the Potters just over a year ago.

Schumacher was a hugely popular figure in Devon after he got the club promoted to the Championship, winning the League One title in 2023.
But he faces a tough job trying to keep them in the division should he take the job.
Argyle are bottom of the table, remain three points from safety and are winless in their last 11 games.
Rooney guided the club to just four victories from 23 games in the league during his tenure.
And they conceded more goals (51) and scored the fewest (22) in the division at his time of departure.
