I spent £129.99 buying unclaimed luggage from Heathrow – it was a total gamble but paid off, I even got an iPad

A BARGAIN-HUNTER who spent £129.99 buying an unclaimed suitcase from Heathrow has revealed how her gamble paid off.

Becky is no stranger to finding money-saving buys, whether she’s in the charity shop or at a boot sale, and decided to see if she could find any gems in someone’s lost luggage.

She then found an Apple iPad, which turned on when she charged it[/caption]

She took to TikTok to document the process of opening the case, and things got off to a good start as she found a pair of black sparkly UGG boots.

While she wasn’t sure if the boots were authentic, she said they looked brand new, and they would have retailed for around £170 if they were real UGGs.

She then came across some Juicy Couture sliders, which would have been around £25, as well as a “random” box of Pokemon cards.

“I have no idea why you’d need to take them on holiday, but there you go,” Becky noted about the cards, which sell for around £37 new.

She then found two pairs of hair straighteners, before spotting the famous Apple logo on something underneath.

Becky then discovered it was an iPad – a find she labelled “absolutely mad”.

“I plugged it in, and the charging symbol and the welcome screen came up, so I have no idea if it works or not, but I’m feeling hopeful,” she smiled.

The case was also full of brand new Shein clothes, as Becky admitted: “I’m still really skeptical about these lost luggage cases, because although so far this is the best one I’ve received, none of it actually makes any sense to be a legitimate person’s suitcase!

“It’s all very random, but I guess that’s what you get.”

There was a bag of men’s toiletries, as well as a make-up bag full of cosmetics, including some Chanel ones.

Next up, Becky opened up the other side of the case, and pulled out two neck pillows to start with.

“Then I found these two fitness tracker watch things,” she said, of one which looked to be an Apple Watch, around £89 second hand, as well as a £69 OrthoPulse one.

The haul continued with a pair of toddler adidas trainers, which were new with tags, and would have cost around £40 in stores.

A Kindle was up next, although Becky noted it was slightly “beat up”, as well as a toy tractor, two pairs of goggles, another full make-up bag, two books, a belt, a pair of shoes and loads more clothing.

She also came across her favourite item from the case – a brightly coloured faux fur leopard print coat.

In total, the case contents are estimated to have been worth around £990.

How to buy lost luggage

THE famous US store which sells off unclaimed baggage has launched an online shop - so you can buy more travellers' lost items.

The Unclaimed Baggage Center, located in Alabama, has long been a destination for treasure hunters wanting to find a bargain from the abandoned suitcases.

Located in the tiny town of Scottsboro, which has a population of 14,000, it is an unlikely tourist hotspot.

Inside is a megastore of misplaced possessions taken from tens of thousands of suitcases, rucksacks and duffel bags, all lost on commercial flights across the US.

Now, you don’t have to travel to the US and can do your shopping online with their new online store.

The centre has launched the online shopping experience as part of their 50th anniversary, having opened in 1970.

Everything from clothing to electronics are found on the website – current items for sale include high-street dresses from $8 up to 18K bracelets worth over $13,000.

They also have a weird and wonderful section which ranges from gold necklaces and diving equipment to designer gowns and signed memorabilia.

Legally, airlines have a duty to reunite luggage with their owners within 90 days, but if that fails, bags end up at the centre.

So frequent are these deliveries that the Unclaimed Baggage Center has around one million items on sale at any time, with 7,000 new items added to the shop floor every day.

Not everything that is found is sold – a third is binned, including all underwear, while another third of it is donated to charity.

Brenda Cantrell, the store’s brand ambassador, says: “Less than half a per cent of all lost luggage fails to make it back to its owners, but that’s still thousands of bags every year.

“And the vast majority of those make their way here. We have exclusive contracts with all the major US carriers, making us the only store of this kind anywhere in the country.”

According to journalist Jonathon Thompson who went there himself, the 40,000sqft centre is “more like a swanky department store than a musty charity shop,” adding that items are separated into sections, which includes electronics, jewellery and even wedding clothes.

Customers have also found bargains while shopping there – one person bought a £65 vase, only to find out later it was worth £15,000, while one piece of art valued at £45 was actually worth £20,000.

“The most random selection of things were in this suitcase,” Becky wrote in the video caption.

“That’s my luggage!!!! it isn’t but can you imagine someone watching this video recognises it? lol,” one person commented on the video.

“I think they empty them and add random stuff,” another speculated.

“When we pack we mix our stuff up in case someone’s case goes missing so we all have bits of each other’s clothing,” a third commented.

“Shoes, clothes, swimwear etc – might be why it’s jumbled up.”

“The suitcase alone was worth it,” someone else pointed out.

Shamrock Rovers sign ‘standout goalkeeper in League of Ireland’ as Stephen Bradley hails ‘competition for places’

ED McGINTY has swapped Sligo Rovers for Shamrock Rovers with Hoops boss Stephen Bradley believing it is a statement signing.

But he insisted that McGinty will have to earn the No. 1 shirt off Leon Pohls.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper joins from Oxford United, having spent last season on loan at Sligo Rovers where he first made his mark before moving to England in 2022.

And Rovers’ boss Bradley believes he has landed a top goalkeeper having tracked him for some time.

He said: “We’ve been talking to Ed for some time, also talking to Oxford, and these things take time when he’s signed somewhere else.

“But we are delighted to get Ed in, he was the standout keeper in the league last season and he’s grown and matured over the years, so he’s a player we think will really help us grow.

“He’s a really good age and you can see when he came back into the league he showed real growth, personality and maturity in his game.

“I think you only need to look at the points haul he helped Sligo get and the impact he had.

“He’s good in most aspects of what he does, and he has a real personality in how he plays the game.

“I think you need that to play for this club and he has that so we look forward to getting Ed in.”

But Bradley stressed that he expects a goalkeeping competition this season with McGinty adding competition alongside Pohls, who played all but one game last season.

Bradley added: “You need competition for places all over the team and Ed will certainly bring that.

“If you look at last season, we had Leon, Lee Stacey and Alex Noonan who were around it all the time.

“So, with Ed adding to that, I can see all four pushing each other in training and that will only help standards.

“Alex is obviously a younger one, but one we really like, and we think has real potential to be a top goalkeeper so Alex will be around it a lot more.

“So we’ll have real competition for places which is what’s needed.”

EASY DECISION

Former Ireland Under-21 goalkeeper McGinty revealed that joining the Hoops was an easy decision once he had spoken to Bradley.

McGinty told club media: “It wasn’t too difficult leaving Oxford, but it was always difficult leaving Sligo Rovers. It’s been a big part of my life so that was a tough part.

“At the same time, Shamrock Rovers is the biggest club in Ireland, what they’ve done in Europe is incredible, so I want to come and help them and improve them.

“When Stephen rang me, I could sense his level of drive and ambition, and that matches mine. So, in a sense, it was an easy decision.”

He now joins the club for pre-season training with the season set to start on February 13 with the Conference League play-off first leg in Molde before a league opener with Bohemians at the Aviva Stadium.

McGinty added: “It’s brilliant, really exciting to get over and hit the ground running is what we’ll want to do as a team and what I’ll personally plan on doing.

“It’s massive credit to what Stephen and the group has done over the past years to get these European games and it’s brilliant to see the league growing in general.

“The Bohs game at the Aviva should bring more fans for the beginning of the season and hopefully retain them from there. So it’s all very exciting.”

McGinty is the second new arrival at Tallaght ahead of the 2025 season with Danny Grant already signed from Bohemians.

Neil Farrugia has left the club for Barnsley, Seán Hoare moved to St Patrick’s Athletic and Richie Towell has also departed.

But Bradley – who still hopes to retain loan signings Johnny Kenny, Markus Poom and Darragh Burns – revealed he hopes to bring in one or two more in the coming week.

He added: “These things take time but hopefully we’re not too far away with them. We’re working in the background to try and get some signings in.

“But it’s only ones we target and that’s the way we always operate, we won’t sign players just to sign players, we sign the people and the players we think will improve us.

“That work is ongoing and we hope to make progress on them in the next week or two.”

Love Island bombshell revealed as controversial star who plans to win back her ex in All Stars villa

LOVE Island star Harriett Blackmore has signed up for this year’s All Stars and she already has a bombshell game plan in place to win back her ex.

The TV star will be coming face-to-face with Ronnie Vint after he was confirmed to be one of the first 12 stars entering the villa this Monday.

Harriett and Ronnie got together during last summer’s edition of the ITV2 dating show but split in September last year and now The Sun can exclusively reveal she has come up with a plan to win him back when she enters the show as a bombshell.

Sources close to the former couple have revealed that Harriett has a one-track mind to win back her ex after they quietly attempted to give their romance another go a few weeks ago.

The pair had begun to grow close again before Ronnie jetted off to South Africa.

Now The Sun can reveal how Harriett plans to seal the deal by clawing him back on the show.

She has even told pals she thinks it would be a fool-proof way of them reaching the show’s final after their earlier than expected exit last summer.

An insider told The Sun: “Harriett has signed up for All Stars after it was confirmed her villa ex Ronnie would be making his way to South Africa.

“She is desperate to get him back and she thinks he is still harbouring feelings for her.

“Whilst to the public it seemed that it was very much over for the pair, behind closed doors it has been a completely different story with the duo spotted locking lips just weeks ago at a celeb-packed Xmas event.

“It has been a rocky road for the couple but Harriett thinks there is no better place to get things back on track than the All Stars villa.

“She has the whole thing mapped out in fine detail but as she is expected to arrive later in the programme’s run as a bombshell, could Ronnie’s head have already been turned before his ex arrives?”

Harriett and Ronnie called it quits in September last year amid claims of cheating and increasingly hectic work schedules.

But just last November, Ronnie hinted he was keen to finally get back with stunner Harriett in an interview with The Sun.

He said: “I think a lot of the girl and I always said our journey might start again, who knows…”

When quizzed over whether he’d like to rekindle his relationship with Harriett one day, he said: “Yeah, definitely. I would never close it off.”

Love Island All Stars 2025 official line-up

Love Island All Stars is returning to TV for season 2.

Here we take you through the line-up of Islanders’ who are set to go into the villa so far.

Bombshell rumours

Each series brings with it a string of hot single bombshells making their epic entrance into the villa.

Here’s who is rumoured to be going into the villa so far:

Who is Hen Weekend Chicken Boarding owner Katriona Shovlin and when was she on Dragons’ Den?

KATRIONA SHOVLIN, the mastermind behind the UK’s first-ever five-star hen hotel, is taking her daring idea to Dragons’ Den.

She’ll be pitching her luxury “hennels” on the popular BBC reality show. Here’s what we know about her.

Who is Dragons’ Den contestant and chicken boarding owner Katriona Shovlin?

Katriona Shovlin has been running her Hen Weekend Chicken Boarding business from her home in Upchurch, Kent, since late 2023, and it has been going from strength to strength.

The Sun previously shared how her all-inclusive chicken retreat quickly became fully booked after its autumn launch.

It sees birds dance to Beyonce at the cocktail bar, peck at a superfood buffet, jump in a tyre and play on a swing.

The hen hotelier has had extensive experience in dealing with wildlife, having studied animal science at Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent.

Now, 32-year-old mum-of-one Katriona is looking to take things to the next level.

When is Katriona Shovlin on Dragons’ Den?

You can catch the episode on BBC One this Thursday, January 9, 2025.

She’s hoping to secure investment on the BBC’s Dragons’ Den to expand her unique and quirky business.

She said: “Walking into the Dragons’ Den was one of the most emotional and exciting moments of my life.

“It was not just about pitching a business, it was about being a voice for hens, showing the world their worth, and sharing why they deserve more from us as a nation of animal lovers.

“I hope that my journey inspires others to see hens as more than just chickens, but as the beautiful, individual souls they truly are.”

Shovlin revealed that it was the special guest dragon, fitness guru Joe Wicks, who helped her feel more at ease during her pitch.

She said: “To approach all these millionaires was really daunting, but Joe’s just like me.”

What started as a simple hen house in her backyard to care for abandoned birds quickly grew into something much bigger.

Before long, Shovlin found herself looking after family pets while their owners were away.

She now accommodates female chickens exclusively at a price of £3 per bird each day.

She said: “We’ve had up to 20 chickens here at times from families who are going on holiday or in the process of moving home.

My own journey has shown me that with the right mindset and a lot of hard work, anything is possible.

Joe Wicks

“One family read about us on social media and drove all the way from Berkshire for me to look after their chickens.”

The TV appearance is the biggest media spotlight yet for the hen hotel owner, who’s already been featured in national newspapers and on BBC Radio 1 and 2 when she first launched her business.

Shovlin admitted she was surprised when the TV producers reached out to her as it was an opportunity she didn’t see coming.

“I originally said no because I just thought this is a small little business.

“However, I reflected on it and thought that there couldn’t be a better platform that I could have to propel the business into the spotlight and raise awareness at the same time.”

Who are the new Dragons’ Den judges?

The health and fitness guru Joe Wicks will be joining the Dragons as a guest investor.

Fitness coach and author Joe Wicks will be joining Peter Jones, Sara Davies, Steven Bartlett, Deborah Meaden, and Touker Suleyman as a guest in the first episode of the new series.

Wicks, famously known as The Body Coach, first made a name for himself as a nutrition guru and author of best-selling cookbooks like Lean in 15.

But it was during the Coronavirus lockdown that he became a true household name, thanks to his daily PE with Joe live streams, which helped families stay active at home.

In March 2020, he even set a world record for the most people tuning in to a live-streamed workout.

The fitness guru said: “I can’t wait to step into the Den as a Guest Dragon and meet all the brilliant and passionate entrepreneurs.

“My own journey has shown me that with the right mindset and a lot of hard work, anything is possible.”

Joining Joe in the new series is British fashion and beauty entrepreneur Trinny Woodall

Many will remember Trinny from her days as co-host of the BBC show What Not to Wear, where she and Susannah Constantine dished out fashion advice and makeovers.

Since then, Trinny has carved out a major name for herself in the beauty world with her successful makeup and skincare brand, Trinny London, which focuses on personalised beauty products.

She’s also well-loved for her fashion columns, style and beauty books, and her vibrant social media presence, where she’s always sharing tips, tricks, and inspiration with her followers.

Woodall says: “Building and growing my beauty brand has been one of the great experiences of my life.

“I’m delighted to join the next series of Dragons’ Den as a Guest Dragon and look forward to discovering the fantastic ideas and passion that the entrepreneurs will bring to the table.”

Catch Dragons’ Den at 8PM on Thursday, January 9 on BBC One and on BBC iPlayer.

Who are the 2025 Dragons' Den investors?

  • Deborah Meaden: businessperson and TV personality
  • Emma Grede: CEO and co-founder of fashion brand, Good American
  • Joe Wicks: fitness expert and entrepreneur
  • Peter Jones: entrepreneur, businessman, and investor
