Fair City star shares major health update after being rushed to hospital with ‘complications’ after ‘scary experience’
RTE Fair City star Maclean Burke major health update after his “very scary experience”.
The actor, who’s best known for playing Damien Halpin on the hit RTE soap, was rushed to hospital last month.
Maclean’s fiance Cat shared an update on his health[/caption]Maclean had been starring as the lead role in the 3Olympia’s panto show, Freezin, and collapsed after the show on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
The Dubliner was immediately taken to hospital, where a doctor diagnosed him with rhabdomyolysis.
Rhabdomyolysis is a rare condition involving the rapid breakdown of muscle and according to the HSE, the condition can be “potentially a life-threatening condition”.
Maclean’s fiance Cat Nolan took to social media last weekend and explained how he had “complications” and was still in hospital.
She said: “Some days in the panto when they’re doing a three show day, Mac would be burning over 7000 calories which would be the equivalent of doing like three marathons. He has it all recorded on his Apple watch.
“Unfortunately with this condition when it gets to extreme levels, he spent all Saturday night in resus because there was concern for his heart. He had a couple of seizures where he went unconscious. There comes other complications.
“He’s having a number of tests and he’s still in hospital and he’s not getting out. We don’t have the full picture yet of the complications that go along with this condition.”
She added that the experience was “very scary” for Mac and everyone involved and that they were “so grateful” for the treatment he was receiving in hospital.
And it looks like things have improved for Maclean as on Tuesday, he confirmed he was back home.
According to Extra.ie, Cat posted a clip of Maclean laughing at home with her and joked: “I guess I won’t be bored anymore because…
“Who the f*** is that guy.”
The dad-of-four re-posted the video to his own social media.

Maclean’s friends and fans have all sent their love and support for himself and Cat.

Premier League star facing rape allegations set to continue being picked for club despite prosecutors mulling charges
THE Premier League player facing rape allegations is expected to continue being selected by his club despite prosecutors now mulling bringing formal charges.
Metropolitan Police investigators have now passed a formal file into the claims to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide on next steps.
The Premier League footballer facing rape allegations continues to be selected by his club[/caption]A total of five women have accused the unnamed top-flight player of rape, sexual assault or controlling behaviour.
Despite the allegations first emerging in July 2022 when the player was initially arrested, he has remained available for selection and featured for his club on a regular basis.
It is understood that the club is standing by its position that the player involved remains innocent until proven otherwise and therefore should not be punished by his employer.
That situation could change, however, if a formal charge is laid by the CPS – but the evolving situation lays bare the quandary clubs face when serious allegations are made against their players.
Manchester United suspended striker Mason Greenwood without pay in January 2022 after he was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and assault.
Greenwood was formally charged nine months later before the case collapsed in February 2023 – at which point United began an in-house investigation.
Despite determining, after a lengthy probe, that Greenwood had not committed the offences alleged, the United board, led by then-chief executive Richard Arnold, decided the England striker would never play for the club again.
Greenwood was initially sent to Getafe on loan for last season before joining French giants Marseille in a deal worth up to £26million in July.
United’s approach to such a delicate issue was put in context by the outcome of the stance taken by Manchester City after left-back Benjamin Mendy was arrested and remanded in custody charged with four counts of rape and one of sexual assault, in August 2021.
The first allegations had emerged in 2020, during lockdown, but Mendy remained available for selection and played in the opening game of the following season, 11 days before his arrest.
City then suspended the defender, with his pay docked the following month.
But after Mendy was cleared following a lengthy trial in January 2023, he sued the club at an employment tribunal – claiming he had been wrongly denied wages when he was available for selection after his release from custody.
Despite being subject to strict police reporting conditions, which meant he would have to attend a local station during training sessions and was unavailable to play any night or overseas games, Mendy was eventually awarded £8.5m in withheld wages.
The current player’s club is likely to be mindful of both these examples when determining its next steps.
At the same time, the decision to keep playing him has brought criticism of the club, Premier League and FA from the alleged victims and their supporters.

Meanwhile, last weekend the second Masked Singer contestant to be unmasked was Pegasus and was revealed to be Prue Leith.

“Amazing Prue is doing this at 84 yrs old, you go girl,” said a third.
Others claimed it was easy to guess after Pegasus spoke in the VT and to the judges, as her South African accent made her recognisable.
One viewer pointed out: “Prue didn’t even hide her speaking voice in the VT.”
Another viewer thought the same: “I love how I didn’t know it was Prue Leith from her singing but the second she spoke it was so obviously her.”
Prue’s unmasking comes after TV presenter Kate Garraway was revealed to be Spag Bol.
Speaking on the show, the GMB host said: “I can’t sing and I kept telling [the producers] that but they said it doesn’t matter.”
Who has left The Masked Singer 2025 so far?
Much to the delight of telly fans, The Masked Singer is back in 2025.
Twelve celebrities have been hidden behind intricate costumes, with their identities concealed.
Sadly, not all of this year’s whacky and wonderful characters can make it to the end of the show, as there can only be one winner.
Here’s who has been unmasked so far:
Pegasus – the mythical horse was revealed to be Prue Leith, with judge Jonathan Ross correctly guessing her identity
Spag Bol – this character was first to be unmasked and was none other than Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway.
Plus there was one extra unmasking this season, with Giant Joel – a caricature of host Joel Dommett – unveiled as double-double Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah.
