Inside David Clifford’s sports-heavy New York holiday where he & girlfriend visited two iconic venues

HE may have been starring in Tyrone on Sunday but last month David Clifford was taking a bite out of all that the Big Apple has to offer.

The Kerry talisman saved the day with an outrageous hat-trick in Pomeroy as they eventually won out by 3-13 to 2-13.

The Kingdom were five points down in the second half — and had two players including Clifford black-carded — yet outscored Tyrone with 13 men to win in Pomeroy.

The Red Hands, who brought Errigal Ciarán trio Darragh and Ruairí Canavan and Peter Harte off the bench, failed to score in the last quarter as Kerry piled on an unanswered 1-5 to grab two big league points.

Darragh Canavan bagged a goal on his return but it was Clifford who was the star of the show.

He said: “The break I had was really enjoyable and when you come back you’re not fully sure where you are because you’re training on your own.

“But it is great to get a win up here. It was a cross-wind and not easy to kick into either goal really.

“We really pressed them on the kickout and it made a massive difference to the drama of the game.”

The game was moved on Saturday from Omagh to Pomeroy, which is the highest village in Ulster.

And it was Clifford who rose to the greatest heights.

With both teams in relegation trouble before the throw-in, Tyrone looked on course to earn a precious win when they led 2-13 to 2-8 with 20 minutes to play.

Darragh Canavan, on as a sub for his first Tyrone appearance of 2025, and Mark Bradley scored goals in the third quarter as they stretched their 0-11 to 1-5 interval lead out to five points.

Joe O’Connor got a black card for hauling Darragh Canavan down as Kerry conceded a penalty, which Bradley booted into the net at the second attempt.

It was soon followed by a David Clifford black card but he came back on to complete his hat-trick with another left-footed shot past Niall Morgan.

That drew Kerry level with four minutes to play and with the visitors pressing up on Tyrone’s kickouts and the home side unable to get any supply to their dangerous forwards.

Kerry controlled the closing stages and tapped over the insurance points.

Tyrone remain second from bottom in Division 1 with just two points from four games and difficult away games to come against Galway and Donegal.

Just as they did against Derry, Kerry staged a late rally to pick up the points on the road.

Despite losing both homes games so far to Donegal and Dublin, they moved into mid-table safety with four points.

After such a poor display in Castlebar a week earlier, this was a much-improved performance by Tyrone, at least until the critical final quarter.

Yet the outcome was still the same and it may turn out to be a damaging defeat for them in terms of staying up.

He was in good company at the bash, which was filmed live, surrounded by fellow A-listers Peter Dinklage, Adrien Brody and his Shrinking co-stars Jason Segel and Jessica Williams sat at dinner tables.

The 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards opened in Los Angeles with the camera panning the Shrine Auditorium, and showing famous faces delivering speeches about the meaning of being an actor.

But when it landed on Shrinking star Jessica, Harrison, 82, appeared totally unaware that he was on TV — and was caught tucking into a biscuit.

As he was about to take another bite it suddenly dawned on him and he stopped chewing, froze, and carefully placed the treat back on his plate.

The mishap threw Jessica off and she burst into laughter.

“I told him to turn away,” she choked, before jokingly yelling at her Shrinking co-star, “Don’t look (at the camera)!”

The clip has been spreading online, with fans on X relishing the actor’s relatable moment.

One commented: “Zero f**ks given, been in the game long enough not to have to follow the rules.”

Another said: “Harrison Ford always looks like he’s having the time of his life.”

As a third reacted: “I ran into a vein of really good writing, and I thought I’d take advantage of it, and I’m really glad I did.”

One more posted: “Iconic moment…

“Who else would eat like that in front of the camera?”

It was also a good night for Irish actor Colin Farrell who won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor for his role in The Penguin.

The awards, hosted by Kristen Bell, reflected on actors’ first starts in the business.

“I have to thank my sister who I’ve worked with for 22 years,” he said in his acceptance speech.

Candice Stowe (Nikki Sanderson) appeared on the ITV soap from 1999 to 2005.

She was best friend to Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) – and godmother to her daughter Bethany (Lucy Fallon).

After leaving Weatherfield, Nikki went on to play Maxine Minniver in rival soap Hollyoaks.

Having debuted in 2012, however, she will be departing the show later this year.

Reacting to this news, one fan wrote on an online forum: “She’ll be back in Corrie by end of the year.”

Another penned: “I agree with the other comments and think she will leave to go back to Corrie.”

A third penned: “Brilliant news. No character has had their day as much as Maxine.

“Would welcome a Candice return in Corrie.”

While a fourth commented: “Would be good for Sarah to have a friend again plus she had a relationship with Adam Barlow – maybe shake things up a bit with him and Alya.”

The Sun revealed how Nikki had told Hollyoaks bosses that she’s keen to step back at the end of her current contract.

Meanwhile, the 40-year-old is set to film her emotional exit scenes next month.

As Maxine, Nikki has featured in plotlines including domestic abuse mental illness during her Hollyoaks stint.

A source told The Sun: “She met with bosses and told them of her plans to leave, she’d just turned 40 and felt the time was right to say goodbye to Maxine.

“She’s keen to explore other opportunities and is excited to get back out there.

Who lives where on Coronation Street?

Here is where all of the residents of Weatherfield's main street live

“Bosses have been plotting Maxine’s exit storyline for months and have promised it will be a fitting tribute to the character, and viewers can expect a lot of drama before she goes.”

The source added: “She will film her final scenes next month, which will go out on-screen in May.”

Could Corrie fans soon see Candice Stowe back on the cobbles?
